Last Poster #8

Can't stop making these. What started out as a study of negative space kinda took on a life of its own, with an evolution of technique and composition.

In chronological order starting from a few years ago until this year. Each one is shown hanging on the gate and then hanging on a wall, except the last pic because it's too snowy and wet to hang it on the gate:
They look almost like bows. Neat work.

Started experimenting with the format

The Thanksgiving meal is not exactly what you would call the traditional American Thanksgiving. First, no turkey.
Menu
Zhūròu bāo - Pork Baozi
Mǐfěn chǎocài - Vegetable Meifun
Suàn róng qiézǐ - Eggplant with garlic sauce
Chǎofàn - Fried rice
Zhēng húluóbo - steamed carrots
Zhēng tǔdòu - steamed potatoes
Píngguǒ pài - apple pie

Thank you :shamefullyembarrased: I've got a load of these, but so far I haven't found anywhere to exhibit that won't cost me a lot of money or tie me up in irritating committees. I'm hopeful of the church summer Art exhibition though. All in all I've got about £350 worth of paintings just sitting in frames in my studio. There's artists who shun the gallery system, and then there's me desparate for a way to bring my pig to market. I say 350, they're actually worth a bit more than that, but I'd rather have 50 than not have 100 if you see what I mean

Had a good workout. I'm advanced enough to start cycling, but not advanced enough that it needs to be long and involved. So I move up through the progression I followed to get where I am, but much faster. Then I spend 6 weeks with the weights I used last time, then have a test week, then a week off, then we're off all over again. I need to keep my fitness, after all it says in the good book to train your body and discipline it so it does what you ask of it. But it needs to be a smaller part of my life. My main focus for the next few years is the church. I'm going to be a street pastor to start off with. I might find a judo school in my local town. The 'way of gentleness' seems like a good martial art for a cleric to practice, even if it doesn't always end up being very gentle (!)
Lots of kung fu claim to have been practiced by monks. Or perhaps by those hiding in monasteries and pretending to be monks. My own system, Tibetan crane, claims to have been developed by a Tibetan lama and initially practiced in the monasteries. There is nothing gentle about Tibetan crane.

As far as the “gentle way” goes, I suspect a better translation might be “supple” or “flexible”. I agree with @Wing Woo Gar Throws and joint locks ain’t gentle on the receiving end.

OK cool, learning is good...

How is that valued? £350 if you sold them all? Seems to me they could be much more valuable than that, to the right buyer. Gotta find the right venue.

I’ve done some silver casting and always got great reviews for my work. Unfortunately I could never find the right venue and never had the time to really pursue it properly and so only ever sold sporadically. But don’t undervalue your work.

Have you looked into Etsy.com? It isn’t great, it is easy to get lost in the listings, it is so huge. But could be a place to start. I have a shop there.

It's getting into a venue, that's the charm... there's an artists's co op near me that I have hopes for. If I paint the frames white they could potentially go quite well with the house style. I'm not too keen on white frames personally, but it would be a good fit. It's formally innovative enough to be exciting, but not enough to be off putting, and it's local-inspired landscape which for some bizarre reason they don't have a lot of, but it seems they would be keen on having some. Several artists there have expressed a liking for my work.

Then there's the really big one.... It's A1, because I needed to feed my insatiable hunger for ever larger pieces of paper. Then there's the drawings, I have maybe as many as a thousand, but pricing them is tricky. Here's a sample

Had a good workout, I'm back up to my working weight of 30kg, did 8 reps each side single arm overhead clean and press , pushups on dumbbells, ab rollouts, and 2 rounds each of chinto and passai with 10 dumbbell swings. Wasn't even that out of breath, so next time I'm going for 20 reps of the swings. Then maybe make a 35kg dumbbell for the swingy bits/

How large are these, and on what kind of paper are they done? I don’t know anything about this kind of work so I don’t know what is standard. I suggest you get them tastefully framed. Something simple and somewhat minimalistic, not over-the-top fancy.

Your work gives me the impression of something “Middle-Earth-ish” with a hint of the Far East. That is the feeling it gives me. I could see this kind of work being used to illustrate a fantasy/adventure/sword-and-sorcery type novel. From what I can tell over the internet here, I see those qualities in it and I really do believe your work is very good. Maybe your venue is in illustrating novels.
