  • Can I ask for a small tip (is that even correct grammar?)? I've been facing problems generating power with my roundhouse kicks. I've tried to fix it but I don't know how to. Can you enlighten me on this matter? Thanks!!!

It's really difficult to critique the technique of someone you've never seen. But there are a number of common errors. One would be failing to pivot the supporting foot. Another would be striking the target instead of through the target. A poor chamber will lessen power as well. Poor balance. Leaning too far back to try to kick higher than you really should. You really should be getting input from your instructor.

Well... ok.... but... I've been a moderator for 6 years, and a senior moderator for 4.
The second book is available as a PDF. If you want a copy, just contact me with an email address and I'll send it along.

I studied Moo Duk Kwan Taekondo in 1973, stop my study to work, go to college and raise family.
Now I am an old man wanting to train again, my body remembers, but the mine does not remember what comes next in the forms.

    Hi Bruce7,
Sadly, the textbook is too large to send as an attachment.
If you want a copy, you can get one at www.blurb.com/b/3088341-a-students-guide-to-tae-kwon-do-moo-duk-kwan That is a link to the various print versions, and on that page is a link to the eBook version. Unless you're just hooked on paper, I'd get the eBook version. It's $3.99, and can be read on pretty much any device.
I see that you are an avid diver. I am master, wreck/structure, and rescue certified and have made 6xx dives. Where do you dive mostly?

Anywhere warm. The two ladies I travel with are NOT fans of cold. They wear 6mm with hoods in 82F water...
I'm certified for everything except rebreathers.
At least you are showing that you are doing Martial Arts not sure about the rest of the people. Awesome break their sir ;)
Just curious, regarding your diamond pattern dobok. On our school, 9th to 1st gup wear plain, white doboks, 1-3rd dan wear white doboks with black V-neck trim. 4th dan and up can wear diamond pattern dobok if they choose. The diamond pattern rule goes for both the TaeKwonDo and the Hapkido classes, btw. Do your school have similar rules?

Geup ranks wear white dobaks. Chodanbo (Black Belt candidates) can wear a black collar. Dan ranks can wear whatever they like.
Hello... I'm sorry I'm not available right now, but if you leave a message at the sound of the beep, I'll get back to you. Probably. *Beeep*
Thanks for the Kudo's. Of course there aren't enough cases. It's one facet of a practice that included cataracts, glaucoma and plastics. Sorry if I gave the impression that I spent my entire career sitting around sewing up eyeballs. But the time spent in followup of the trauma cases was enormous relative to the other stuff. Dennis
