I haven’t read these books and don’t know if they are any good, but this is what they remind me of.

I mean, just this one in and of itself is probably worth a few hundred, but would it sell at that?

Love the depth the shading and fading gives to that piece.

The 'calligraphic' features are so free and easy, yet hint at a disciplined hand and upper body. Swaying and curving much the same way the winds and grounding would influence the shape and movement of the tree over the time it took to grow into it's present form. Very expressive.

Just what speaks to my whimsical eye, anyway.

And, yeah, I'd expect it to be priced way above of my budget, and I wouldn't think it out of line if it were.

Also, what Flying Crane said about illustrating novels...and then selling the original pieces once they've gained an audience.

Thank you :)

I kind of want to write my own book at some point. I have a story in my head about six lesbians two of whom are witches, a place between worlds where outcasts flee to, and a huge scruffy malodorous and very noisy raven called 'Kraark'.

I've got a big one in current production

I also like the idea of writing a novel. I sometimes get a concept idea that i think is pretty good, but I have no story whatsoever to give it. Ah well, I think that isn’t where my talent is.

The other day, when inspecting, cleaning and oiling a n old katana (from 1820) I noticed a browny-black sludgy smudge across its tip and realised the scabbard’s ā€˜oil trap’, (油槽 - yusō), situated at its distal end, must have accumulated a considerable amount of gunk over the last two centuries. But how on earth could I clean it out? After ruminating on the problem, I ordered as set of those cable feeding rods, used to pull electrical cables through cavities or under floorboards. I wrapped its end thinly in a clean gauze bandage with the other end wrapped around my hand and gently pushed it into the scabbard, carefully rotating it to clean it out any residue. It took quite a few repetitions, changing the gauze each time, of this process before the gauze came out clean; the scabbard’s yusō was pristine, much to my relief. Now, the colour of the gunk seemed familiar somehow and I had a disturbing hunch as to what it might contain, so I cut off some of the soiled gauze, soaked it in a small beaker of saline and dripped the solution onto a urine testing strip (the ones that can detect protein, sugar, ketones and blood in one’s urine) that I happened to have in my medicine cupboard. I didn’t have wait for more than a few seconds for the result; it contained a large amount of blood (ā€˜++++’)! 😳 Naturally, I’m fully cognizant for what Japanese swords were used, by their samurai guardians, but this piece of hard evidence brought that fact into startling focus and I have to admit the circumstance by which that blood got there, slightly disturbed me! In a bit of a daze, I dropped the gauze in my bin, oiled my sword and packed it away.

That night, while trying to sleep, my thoughts of that evening’s discovery made me feel uneasy, as though something(s) was present in my bedroom toward the foot of my bed, above me, observing me, oppressing me with….’expectation’. There were unusual noises in my bedroom that night , clicks, gentle thumps and scrapes that were unfamiliar amongst the usual ensemble of my house, cooling in the night. I’d just thrown the gauze into my bin planning on emptying it in the morning but after a night of tossing and turning, realised what I must actually do. In the morning, I gathered the blood-soiled pieces of gauze from out of my bin, placed them in a small cardboard box, and performed the ancient Japanese Kuji kiri incantation over them (ā€˜rin, pyo, toh sha kai, jin, retsu, zai, zen’) whilst making the nine cutting movements to form the cleansing grid, in order to dispel restless or malign spirits. I took the box out to the far end of my garden, as far away from the house as possible, where I buried them in a small hole. I said under my breath ā€œJobutsu seyoā€ (go to the Buddha/Nirvana) and left the shady area. I have slept peacefully ever since.

(OK, I made up the supernatural bit, but I’m going to tell that story after Christmas dinner and for years to come!)

Hurt my back (not seriously, just general back pain) carrying my dog half a mile back to my apartment. Going to tell myself it's because that's a long walk and my dog squirms like crazy, and not a sign that I've been lax on my strengthbuilding.

Hurt my back a week ago last Thursday (11/20). Friday it was doing much better, but still not right. That’s when I did something stupid. I went out to my garage and rearranged it for winter….. spent yesterday and today flat on my back… and if things don’t straighten out (literally) it is the lion’s share of tomorrow will be on the floor too…. But wait, it gets better… possible snowstorm on Tuesday…. At this rate I’ll be in traction before the end of the week…

I've painted my way out of worse screwups than this in the past

The best bit about the Mari Llwyd isn't even the rap battle, it's that it's clear from the Mari Llwyd's responses during the rap battle that this terrifying, child-traumatising puppet is entirely convinced that she is an appropriate and jolly christmas decoration.

First snowstorm of the season, 6 to 11 inches predicted..... and I need to get the driveway openned up before Mrs Xue gets home this evening.....and my back is out..... this is not going to be fun... slap on the back brace and hope for the best......

OK so I'm still nicotine free. What I did do however was go out last night and get drunk. Then I came home and got even drunker on the home made cider. I am honestly ashamed of myself. I also yelled at my boss and ate all the cheese. This isn't good.

You know, I think I'll uprate the swings to 35kg today and keep the presses at 30. I have two dumbbells after all, and I do american swings, so getting the dumbbell overhead in a swing tends to lead to getting it overhead in a press pretty soon. My aim for this cycle is a single with 40kg.

Is it possible to live on guiness, pork scratchings and pickled eggs? Only that's all I've had today
