I think a simple, hard routine composed of a few well chosen exercises really can have just as much of an effect on your fitness and physique as any of the more complex 'programs'. It turns out a relatively mild but consistent and incremental stimulus beats the hell out of kicking the crud out of your body

After classes today, my left hand has been cramping and aching, particularly if I open/close it. Feeling better but not perfect after a short power nap. Not sure if it's a result of just being sore after 2 hours of classes where I spent most of the time holding mitts, or if these are the first signs of me inheriting my mom's arthritis early.

I imagine you already know this but the sensation of a muscle cramp, tendon/ligament injury, and a bone related pain are different.
A cramping muscle is akin to an uncontrolled contraction. When I do a lot of hand work, my fingers will cramp both in contraction and extension. Hurts like a b***h. One finger can be bent in a fist shape and the adjacent finger can be trying to open. Extended fence work is probably the worst for me.
Tendons/ligaments tend to sting or burn. I have flaring tendonitis/bursitis from time to time. The sting is real.
Bone or arthritis pain can also be a burning sensation but usually mine is just a consistent ache that may worsen in certain positions or ROM. Cold makes it worse for me as well. You will know if/when you get bone on bone (hopefully never). I have numerous Colles fractures (boxer fractures) in both wrist, I assume from years of punching hard targets and my fair share of hard falls. I definitely know when this area inflames.

Are you staying well hydrated (more than just water)? Good diet? Do you have to grip the mitts or are they the open hand style? Specifically, where are your hands hurting?
A quick test to see if it is true cramps is when you have the sensation, chug a large dose of mustard. My cramps ease up in a matter of seconds/minutes. From what I read, this is an indication of excess inflammation and/or mineral deficiency (specifically potassium & magnesium). Another test is simple ibuprofen. More of an inflammation reducer than pain blocker. Alternately, Acetaminophen is more of a pure pain blocker (yes, I am using blocker rather loosely).

A new 'pain' for me it an intense pressure sensation. I have had known back injuries for decades but they never gave me much issue until the last couple years. In my right buttock and heel, I get an extreme 'pressure' that is quite painful. Completely skips my leg somehow. Some kind of Sciatic nerve issue I assume.

Wishing you quick recovery.

A cramp is what I called it, but it's different than how I normally feel cramps (or what I've always assumed are hand cramps), and also in a slightly different spot which threw me off. Those two things are what concerned me. Particularly since my mom has arthritis and my brother has had tendonitis since he was a teen. After waking up, still there but much less than yesterday.

Thinking about it though, I think you're right. I had not been well hydrated yesterday, which likely was the cause. For your other questions, the mitts are open hand style. If you look at the below image, the rectangle is where I normally feel it, and the circle is where I felt it today.

I get this after my forearm workout and doing Iai but in my case the intrinsic muscles of my hands ache and my hands flex in alarming spasms but there’s no pain. Soaking my hands in hot water for 10 minutes really helps

Gonna give both that and mustard (separately) a try if it comes back, which I suspect it will.

Hmm, I would say that is an unusual location. Not really any muscle there to speak of so my hunch would be tendonitis or similar.
Clearly, I am Not a a doctor. Hope that goes without saying.

A bad couple of days. If it's not the anxiety, it's the depression. Or the voices. I know that this, ultimately, is a battle I will lose. Not gonna stop fighting though.

There is a thread on here, that I am trying to avoid, because the poster is posting the same exact things that have been shown to be wrong in copious other threads..... not in the the whole beating a dead horse thenh I guess

It turns out there are lots of work placements in the farming industry that both pay you and provide accommadation. Some of them don't require experience. I'm minded to apply if I don't get the exotic animal job.

Plus, they're all fixed term contracts, which suits me fine because I tend to have a great first few months and then go downhill. Could (literally) be an answer to my prayers.

I'm a bit worried that one of our most beloved posters might be blocking me. Was it something I said? Didn't say? The fact that I'm seeing his wife behind his back?

Tip I learned on a seminar: If you're having trouble with a particular bit of the kata, make a note of it, then when you've finished the kata repeat that bit over and over again 40-100 times. It will feel completely different when you perform the kata again.

I am oooooold, gandalf... I know I don't look it, but I'm beginnint to feel it- I see twenty somethings in pubs and think "You don't even look old enough to be in here"...

To put it nicely… things are getting to esoteric…. To say what I’m actually thinking… things are getting to “arcane” …. So i’lll simply not go there

It seems some of the damage from my gout is going to be permanent. I can no longer put my ankle into full dorsiflexion without pain, even while taking a break from training. It makes downward facing dog pose impossible.

Just happened to see I’m a 3:d degree black belt, so quick’n easy
