Has anyone been experiencing all the smoke haze from Canada's wildfires? It must be really bad because everything has a yellow tint and the air quality is terrible. Is anyone actually from Canada and dealing with the fires? šŸ™

I’ve been talking with friends in Boston. The smoke from the Canadian fires is all over Massachusetts. I can only imagine what it’s like in Canada.

I have been reading a book

Beneath the Banyan
The Hidden strength of Okinawan Karate and Kobudo

And the more I read about it, the more I really want to try Kobudo.

But because of my shoulder, which I dislike as much as it dislikes me, I have to wait

Failed DBS check. No explanation. So I won't be becoming a lay reader. Sucks. I'm off to the whiskey bottle.

For the third time this summer, my AC is busted. For the third time this summer, my house has hit 100'F. We've got some fans, but mostly are using them to keep my dog cool (along with ice cubes and a cooling pad we got last month when it broke, for him to fix). Hopefully the landlord company sends someone quicker than they did last time, and they actually fix it for good this time.

Disclosure and barring service, it's a background check
I would think you have some right to know the information, but probably not the source. In other words, they have information that you wear two left socks every day -- but not that I told them about it.

Disclosure and Barring Service.

Anyone working with the vulnerable, children, positions of responsibility etc has to have a criminal record check called a DBS check to ensure potential employers are fully aware of the backgrounds of people applying for these roles.

I have had to have several for several different reasons from volunteer organizations, to firearm permits, to working with children in a zoo. Nonetheless, the government still managed to get my middle name wrong on my passport. When I went to renew my drivers license, they refused to put my original correct name on the new license despite my protests and production of my original birth certificate. So now my middle name is Chao according to my passport. I have no Asian ancestry, yet I have had my name changed and my identity altered by the very system designed to identify me… The nerve. They told me I should retain a lawyer! Anyway…thanks for the dbs definition.

to working with children in a zoo.
You put children in zoos? 😳

ā€˜Hubert’ rather than ā€˜Herbert’? In all seriousness, that is very sloppy.

Typical civil servants; they don’t want to take responsibility for it.

I thought you did have some Asian ancestry. It was the only reason I didn’t hold you in high disdain šŸ˜‘

Had several background checks myself, county, state and federal. For Security certification ,for security clearance, for gun permit, passport. etc.

Only had one thing come back for the first security certification, they found something in Florida, which i found interesting. At that point in my life I left Florida when I was 3 and hd not been back since. They decided that it was a mistake. When my supervisor retired I told him "OK, I will tell you the truth, I was knocking over banks in Florida when I was 3"

Note: I do think I know where that actually came from. There was a high school class mate that impersonated me in Massachusetts and I got calls from a private investigator about an incident at a work place I had worked at for all of 1 day (I hated it and never went back). The dates he gave, I was not even living in the State any longer. This classmate was living in Florida at the time.

He also had filled out a draft card with my info, which I only found out about when O was applying for a student loan. They had 2 of me on file and he and I filled out the card at the same time, at the same place.

FYI, he is now a PhD in another state, married to an ex-girlfriend of mine. I have not heard anything from that state, which I have never been in, that I have done.

Children belong in zoos. What it should be is other than chao. I am Scottish/scandavian, Italian, African. Sorry we didn’t hit your continent of origin yet. We could arrange it if an injection of culture could cure what ails, though I doubt whether even I can affect such afflictions. Whether you held me in disdain was never in question, I expect it from my lessers as it is a necessary consequence of quality, beauty, and charisma. I understand that you lacked the comprehension to recognize the origin of my ancestry, such is the plight of the plebeian, and yet none of my affair. Though it it is apparent you are doing your best, it is ironic that that very fact is what makes your effort so very sad. Please continue your efforts as hope springs eternal. Even one such as you could rise to a reasonable station someday. Chin up! 😁

Only Americans claim 17 places of origin because it’s boring to say, ā€œOh, I’m Americanā€ šŸ™„

I did one of those genetic ancestry tests because I felt sure that I must have Japanese (samurai) blood flowing through my veins on account of my general Japanophilia and dazzling skills with a sword. After 3 long weeks of waiting, the results came back as….99.99%….INDIAN šŸ™„

You’re a pleb? Sorry, I’ll use simpler words
