"But nothing beats the wages of some older lady vamp
so that's why I'm ashamed to say, this gentleman's a tramp

But I'm always true to you darling in my fashion
I'm always true to you darling in my way..."

Long week... of nothing. Monday evening, I think I started running a fever. By Tuesday -- it wasn't a maybe. I was sick. Called out Wednesday, planned to go in on Thursday... but other plans were mandated as my fever spiked again. Wife sent me to the doc today; had the flu -- son still has it. Wife probably has it (but it's okay for her to push me to the doc, but not me her...) Meanwhile, we're treating me with antibiotics and steroids to prevent pneumania. Yay! Great start to 2026.

Not a fun way to start the new year. Hope you feel better soon 🙏

:( Here's hoping you get better soon :(

If I say the same thing three times it will get stuck in my head and I will be unable to stop saying it. It's like I DO make the rules but I'm an arbitrary and pitiless sadist

Just re-orientating myself a bit. It seems like I'm not going to be a priest. It's disappointing, but I've come to accept it. So I'm going to go with plan A and build up some sort of craft business out of the piece of land my family have. Possibly involving making my own ink and paper and using them to make my pictures, maybe some woodcarving as well. In any event, I'm not going to have a lot of free time for things like martial arts. So I am going to do my clean and press obsessive program with a little kata and some makiwara work. So martial arts continues to be very much on the back burner, I have bigger problems I need to solve in life right now.

I'm sorry to hear brother... I know how excited you were in that pursuit. Keep exploring all dimensions of your faith, that doesn't go, but your Plan A sounds awesome :)

... 44°C today with insanely wild winds.... a bit insane here... crazy bushfires but luckily not too close to us. Went outside as I saw black stuff falling down around our house from the sky. Thought it was leaves so picked some up, was ash 😬. Never, ever seen this before

Crazy winter

I actually find my workout I invented for myself works better than anything else at releasing the ol' endorphins, and that's important to my mental health. I don't care about being competitive anymore, I'm just doing it for me.

The thing being, my nephews and my friends' boys catch a lot of crap for just being boys. They're not bad kids by any stretch of the imagination, they just have a lot of energy. There is nothing wrong with that, and boys need a space where they can just be as loud as they want- it's part of our nature So we're going to have a man camp up at the woods with hiking, campfires and shooting air rifles. Of course there won't be any whiskey.

Read Grayson Perry's book on gender. Frankly, I'm wary of basing my idea of masculinity on a man who makes a point of wearing pretty frocks in public. There's nothing wrong with that, but society STILL needs people like us, and you know what? It probably always will. I'm also wary of this argument of objectivity and traditional reason being an artefact of a privileged class. To associate objectivity and rational thinking exclusively with men strikes me as being far worse than anything else I might have to say on the subject.

I’m pretty sure i saw Superfly (Ron O’Neal) walking on the beach yesterday. Dressed down, jeans and jean jacket, but same big rim hat, mustache, and hair…. Looks good for a guy that died over 10 years ago

I'm not saying anyone should have a major lapse and drink a whole bottle of whiskey, I'm just saying when all your friends are alcoholics too then you don't really stand out as being a much bigger arsehole than anybody else

I was in Southern California last week, for the week, and I saw 46 Tesla Cybertrucks.....that is more than I have seen in NYS, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine put together since these abominations appeared.... that is just WAAAY to may Cybertrucks..... California...WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING.... I mean look at these things

They are ugly, look unfinished, easy to break into, break down easily, headlight goes out and the dang thing won't start and those are only a few of the many MANY other issues they have, Word of advice, if you ever see one towing something, don't follow it, the tow hitches are not connected properly....sheesh...REALLY!!!!! 46 Cybertrucks....wow

Maybe he was only dead for tax purposes...

Serious point -- find new friends if you want to have a different outcome. If you stay with addicts, you will have a hell of a time fighting your own addictions.
