We just got back from Vegas. Went to see Depeche Mode in concert... what a fantastic show. Last time I saw these guys in concert was in 1990 in Dortmund on the Violator tour. They're even better now, and it's pretty amazing to me that they're still putting out such great new music over 30 years later.

My wife and I also took a little time to go to the Graceland Chapel and renew our vows with Elvis Presley. That was pretty wild.

I like Vegas, I don't gamble at all, but I did really like Las Vegas when I was there

We are so bad at gambling… but we had a great time nonetheless. Went to see two cirque de soleil shows, met Elvis, ate some crazy good food, and saw a killer concert with one of my favorite bands. Packed a lot into four days.

In other news, I preordered a new vinyl, and a few days after it dropped I still didn’t have it. So I contacted the store and they apologized and got it in the mail that day. A week later and I still don’t have it. Tracking says it came from AZ to Seattle. Then for some reason, UPS sent it to Chicago. It floated around Illinois for a few days and apparently made it back to Seattle today… but not my part of Seattle. Not sure whats found on, but the barcode has been scanned 18 times in four different states. I just want my record.

See -- you didn't specify what record you wanted. I think there are about 12 more scans to have the "Most Scanned Mail" record.

Had something like that happen with warranty parts from Dell once. Took 2 months to get the parts....they even actually got tyeh parts to the right address twice.... but were rejected..... and sent back.....it seems that somewhere along the way of trac king things down and correcting the multiple wrong addresses they applied....the name was changed to one not even close to mine...... they name they had come up with somewhere along the way was..... Abebe Alamayu.....

Addis Ababa Ethiopia, lots of interesting history here. I grew hearing about starving kids in Ethiopia, I never understood that it was largely connected to socialism.

What I think is pretty remarkable is that they've been releasing great albums consistently since Violator, as well. That includes one that dropped like 2 weeks ago that is great. Playing the Angel, Exciter, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and a few others. The newest one is Memento Mori. Violator will always be my wife's favorite, because that's when she started listening to them.

I haven't heard any of their recent stuff (I tend to listen to the same music over and over until something manages to sneak into my world) - I'll have to go find some of it.

Some albums are stronger than others. Songs of Faith and Devotion and Playing the Angel are strong, as is the album that they just released, Memento Morii. I'd recommend starting with these.

I was in Montreal yesterday....I realized that 70% of the time I go to Montreal....it rains.... yesterday Montreal was cold, windy, raining, freezing ran, snow, sleet, thunder and lightning...the entire time I was in Montreal. At one point my entire vehicle was covered with about a quarter inch of ice..... even the arms of my wiper blades were encased in ice.....

I'm debating going there or boston for my birthday. Which city do you like more?

Today I dove by the old airport in Entebbe Uganda. As a former SWAT guy, this is a very famous place where the world's most daring hostage rescue took place in 1976.

Life lesson of the night: if you have a BBQ grill on your porch and you're cooking something, keep your eye on it 24/7. My brother was cooking some stuff and came inside for like 2 minutes and next thing you knew there was a huge fire coming out of that grill. I almost had to call the fire dept 2 but thank the universe my dad was the chief of the fire party on his ship when In the navy. I was genuinely worried and started dialing 911 2 times. It was scary. What made it more scary was its a propane grill, the fire was coming out of the grill and almost onto our porch it was terrifying. It looked like our grill was having a bonfire. After that freak incident I watched professional fighters league with my bro and my sister in law. We saw some cool fights and got to see some cool matchups. It's starting to finally feel spring like up here so I'm getting ready for the nice weather.
