I'm guessing my immune system hadn't fully recovered from that respitory infection. This really sucks, I hadn't been sick in over two years, now back to back cold/flu like things.

That definately is the way it works. Build you immune system up and not get sick for awhile and then whammo something new comes along and zaps you.
