Steve Morris says Karate is useless

No, well, I'm in no position to start arguing with anything he says. I am, after all, a wimp. All I can say is that while I am of course afraid of him, I have found karate to be very useful in certain areas of my life, and some of it has come in handy in fights. It happens more often than most people realise. Then again, I've known a lot of martial artists who talk about winning fights that they would never even have been in had it not been for this attitude of 'I can handle myself', so that's an arguable point. He does come over a bit brusque.

I'm all about being nice to others. If I want to fight I am happy to do so in competition and I'm happy to fight kickboxing, judo or MMA. I don't do BJJ but I'm open to dipping my toe in BJJ or no gi competitions but I'd be doing so with judo experience, not grading in BJJ

Cool. There's no point in being able to fight if you go to great lengths to make people find you obnoxious- sooner or later you'll run up against somebody like Steve Morris. But yeah, judo rocks. I didn't do it for very long, but it's great fun and coincidentally one of the martial arts that's taught me most of the stuff I have actually had to depend upon. The problem with punching and kicking people is that it tends to escalate things.

I'm happy to fight K-1 or above waist kickboxing. MMA is the best as it gives you multiple options in the fight.

I don't understand why my Ju Jitsu club emphasised hip punching and ayumi ashi if it's a budo club. That's why I 'defend' karate but it bewilders me why a Goshin Ju Jitsu club does that type of striking.
