Hey everyone,

Found out some bad news that is about to effect our small beautiful town here in Alma. Alma, Michigan is what small town America is all about. Lots of nice people, good schools, etc. We have a Hospital, Alma College, Michigan Masonic Home and it is simply beautiful. A new energy park is planning on coming in and is viewed as a positive based off everything we know. Here is where is gets smelly though. We have a CAFO farm coming in just three miles outside of town where they will be raising pigs, roughly 3,000! Now we have a cow farm roughly 3 or 4 miles north and you only smell it maybe three or four times a year during the summer. However a pig farm to the west could be devastating. What to do?

I grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan. I remember the smells of pig and cow farms well. Haven't smelled that smell in years! Brings back memories.

Brian, Alma is a pretty little place. Been there several times and this is some bad news. You might want to check out the Scottville Area, they had a really big pig farm set to come into town and they blocked it somehow a couple of years ago. pig farms are bad. Good for the bacon and hams, but bad smelling.

Well if they do not make it work somehow and keep the smell away from town I do not know if I will want to live here.

They are already having meetings and this Monday they have multiple state representatives coming in for the meeting. (they are all running at this point and want to show their faces) However in talking with a very knowledgeable local businessman it does not look good. Clean smelling air is essential for me so I am pretty concerned at this point!

Well that sucks. Hope something can be worked out. Those pig factories are pretty disgusting. Almost as bad as the chicken warehouses.

WOW! Yeah, certainly not a late sleeper! LOL!

Of course, with me, I get tired early, so I can't win. Wake up early, tired early, but cant, because I work until 12am!

Thanks for the tip! However, our town is about to take off with this energy plant. (could be up to 1,000 or more jobs that are high paying) This will not derail that but could severely impact the quality of life around here. I am seriously worried now.

I wake up everyone morning at no latter than 6 am. On a day when I can sleep in till 7 am I feel bad for most of the morning. I might as well just get up early and start training. Some of my best practice time is just popping out of bed throwing on a uniform and training at my Training Hall in my house.

Who is putting up the plant? GLE or Consumers. If I remember right you are a bit far out for Detroit Edison.

Different group not related to either but has several of these plants throughout the US. This is big for our area and will really make a serious economic impact. Apparently there average salaries are $70,000 plus.

I saw in a previous post that you have a quarter horse and an arabian. That is really cool. My dad you to have several quarter horses and our neighbors raised arabians. Both are great horses and lots of fun to ride.

Hello Dubjay Brian Lisa Carol Jeff and MJS and how are we late sleepers this fine and excellent day, you know as I was cooking breakfast I thought to myself yea what if we had the time to travel where would I go and how would I do it. Simple just rent a vacation home and travel to meet and greet all you fine outstanding Martial Artist and learn from the very best of people I could.
That is what I would do for a year waiting on the wife response.

No livestock, but my indoor critters wake me up as well. Their Mother would kill me if she knew I was calling our sons critters. LOL
