Do MMA.
I hope the kid is at least kicked out of his MMA gym

Then it is not necessarily on him.
Guy walks up making accusations and the response is to start punching him in the face. Its on the kid.

I don’t know the law in Australia but in the US a physical attack is not a justifiable response to a verbal attack.

If the the adult punched or shoved him, well its on the adult. But if the guy just started yelling at the kid, and the kid just started punching him in the face, while his pal grabbed the adult from behind, like the video shows, they are both guilty of an assault and should be arrested and that kid should be kicked out if his MMA gym.

So “getting the wrong kid” does.not necessarily mean “it’s on him”

Add to that, this is the real world outside the ring, so ground and pound is excessive. Kid has no control, so either way, he is not in any way absolved from guilt

In Australia you can defend yourself from a verbal threat that is likley to be a physical one.

The threat needs to contain.
Intent.
Ability.
Delivery system.

Whether it was reasonable and proportionate depends on how good you lawyer is.

The law on self defence in this country is actually quite reasonable. Any set of laws that includes so many instances of the word 'reasonable', must perforce be very reasonable indeed, right? .... right?

Thanks for the info

4 rounds of 1 kata and 10 dumbbell swings at 35kg in 6 minutes. Sobriety is doing good things for my fitness. It's a great little workout I've devised- I had to return a friend's bicycle yesterday and there was an unavoidable and vicious hill to climb. I was expecting to have to get off and push, but I went straight up! All with doing very little non-electric cycling!

Treated this morning like I hope to treat mornings when I retire, this is not the whole plan, but I tried this much

Warmup
Stretching
Standing Yoga
Chair Yoga
Baduanjin
Siu Nim Tao (Sil Lim Tao)

Got to say, it felt great. But since I am not retired yet, I had to check the office emails.... only 2.5 dozen by 10:00am (and this is a slow day).... ironically only 2 were for me, and both were about retirement.

Nice. Hang in there. Work is a filthy habit.

Ahhh, the lawyer, there’s the rub. Are defense lawyers free? So maybe shouldnt beat up wheelchair bound old ladies that threaten to bat you? Example coming. So, big bouncer guy says “ I’m going to knock you out”. Is that defensible with physical force? I would never consider force over verbal threats, but that’s just me. I would definitely pay attention to overt verbal threats, but crazy people say crazy things they don’t mean.

I'm envious...

There's a first of every month...

If I'm seeing the video correctly/reading everything correctly, it looks like the kid was threatened physically with getting his throat slit; a good reason to defend yourself IMO. Not necessarily a good reason to shove an innocent bystander against a fence, continue pushing against her while he beats the other dude on the floor (with at that point no clear threat on the kid), or after the fight got broken up and security guards are there, trying to fight his way through them and dragging the dad along the ground.

At some point that goes beyond defending yourself.

Seems easier and smarter to just get away from verbal only threats than to escalate. It’s just talk unless they brandish a weapon, likely even then.
