Boxing resumes...

Working on simplifying the form a bit.

Was invited to do a workshop at an upcoming crafters fair and I wanted to offer a two-day project that almost anyone can put together in that time. A shorter, more compact version for the masses, as it were.

There aren't as many steps or sequences but it makes use of the same material, principles and methods.

Wasn't sure how the button stud would lock down the lid on a curve as I've only ever done them on a flat on knife sheaths, but it is tight and right.

The leather is 8-9 ounce, so it's a little too thick for the tight-ish contours of that smaller version. Going to use some 6-7 ounce on the next one.
I like the clean look of it, though. it puts the 'funk' in perfunctory

Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked at different types of hardware as examples of ways to secure things, but I try to minimize the amount of store-bought hardware and whatnot that goes into the stuff I make, just for the sake of making it myself.

There are walnut cross-members front and back set into hidden dado joints that keep the sides of the box parallel and square, and the front cross-member supports the frog/button stud. This is looking inside the box showing the front cross-member:

I use duplex nails of various sizes to make the studs:

For illustrative purposes. The shank of the nail is cut shorter than what is shown in the pic just to minimize wobble as the frog is spun into shape using files and emery cloth. The top head of the nail is clipped off before it gets spun:

This is a profile of one I put in a knife sheath. That knife goes everywhere with me whenever I'm 'off-road'. So far so good after 4 years and some months of service:

Well I screwed up and I'm drunk again. I'm considering quitting art. If I was going to make it big, surely it would have happened by now. But what else do I have? I'm making money, barely, but a man needs a mission. Something beyond himself that he can hope for. It's Bell's whiskey and I have drunk better stuff that was not marketed for human consumption. In vino veritas, that's as maybe, but I'm pretty sure there's no truth in whiskey.

There is no truth in wine either

Read “Living the Martial Way” and “Zen in the martial arts” then focus on martial arts….. become the best you can be at it…. Possibly with teaching in the future in mind…. There’s a better purpose for you than trying to find truth, solice, purpose in alcohol or any other mind altering substance

get off the pain meds and find a Qigong, or Meditation or Yoga group and work with the pain holistically .

Don't quit art. Realize and accept that income and fulfillment are not identical. Art fulfills you; jobs provide income so that you can do thevthings that fulfill you.

And stay away from the booze and drugs. That probably means finding different folks to hang out with... Personally, I try tk hang out with the best people who will put up with me.

My brother did this with hot chocolate once. There is still a stain on the ceiling. Fortunately, I was obsessed with first aid at the time and I ran his arm under cold water and wrapped it loosely with a non-fluffy bandage.
