Ah yes. Airdawg, he is kind of new to these parts as well isn't he?

This forum is a bit addicting. There are so many people here and their background as so varied that it is a great mix. Plus the Mods, and Admins, don't put up with the crap on other forums.

There are a couple of Martial talk regulars that are here in the Northeast that I would love to get a training day with. It would be nice to try out some of the arts I haven't tried yet with someone I converse with online.

Funny, I just told him today that this is the only place that I can out belt my instructor! He is one of the neatest people I have ever met though, and very knowledgeable in his martial arts. I am honored to be able to train under him.

I think cross training is a great thing to do, but I am not ready for it yet. Just took my first test last night.

Both of my oldest boys are going to have their first belt tests in a month. They are already psyched for it. It makes it even better that their instructor is also their Uncle. They have to work a bit harder to make the cut, because he is very concerned that other parents may think he is promoting because of relationship.

yep, but it shows loud and clear who's got it and who doesn't when it comes to test day.
I agonaized over the test, but turned out okay. I know I could have done better, but not under pressure.

That and he also wants his students to be the best at their respective ranks when they go somewhere else for a seminar. He just started his own school 2 years ago and is training his students the way we started in this art, hard work and slow ranking. So far the combination is working well for him, he grows a bit each month and hasn't lost a student to another school from day one.

If you got out there, you did better than a lot of people who start the MA's.

Neither will I, even though my instructor started the art 1 week before I did. I got married, had kids, and life got in the way of training for years. I came back and now he is the guy we were both so impressed with all those years ago. Great movement, great teaching style, and very very dedicated. (Plus the fact we are brothers dosen't hurt either.) I figure I'm never going to make rank again (kidding), but will learn a ton from him.

Come on guys quit arguing about who is the king of post whoring in the end it is me

I was under this illusion that I was suppose to do it as well as my instructor. I will never measure up!

Students represent the continuation of the style; without them, it will die out. The best thing that can happen to an instructor is to have a student outperform him/her - so go for it!
