Does that need to be pointed out though? No, you can't go back in time. But you can decide to take what you've learned and reroute toward something that suits you better rather than spending more time ruminating on it. And I think that's a conscious choice. You take things that didn't work out and you either 1) look at them as valuable lessons on what you are and are NOT looking for or 2) you spin your wheels.

The thing is, when you've spent years at a dojo, leaving said dojo will not get you those years back but as you said that doesn't really need to be pointed out. And as it was, that was not entirely the situation I was in when Im speaking about my own experience. Im glad I went to the dojo I went to and if I could go back in time I would still go to that same dojo but I would've done some stuff differently myself.

My advice: Forget about time travel and make a conscious decision about how to spend your time moving forward. Pulling post #37 from a thread that's now up in the 80s suggests you're dwelling on it.

Yes you can only go forward as that's how time works but it's still, good, satisfying, and healthy to get closure of some sort when things go wrong in the past. Much like Johnny Lawrence how he got closure with Ali, his relationship with Ali in high school didn't work out in the long run but they do make up some thirty plus years later and although Johnny can't go back in time and have a do over with Ali and while he's not going to pursue a relationship with Ali in the current time (as he ends up with Carmen) the important thing is he gets closure. He also gets closure with his former Sensei John Kreese, when John Kreese expels him from the dojo and tosses him aside like trash after he loses to Daniel at the All Valley, they do make up many years later. As Kreese points out you can't go back in time but the important thing is to get closure.

Meh. I don't believe in closure beyond the decision to close something. Waiting for something to happen that you interpret as meaningful enough that you're allowed to move on feels like the real waste of time to me.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the Karate Kid (?) reference. But--on the topic of closure--I think this has probably run its course for me. I don't think I've got anything to add to your journey here, but good luck mate.
