Does anything ever exciting happen when you're at work? What's the most exciting moment?

Mostly, It's quiet. There's been a few things that went on. A fired employee showing up with a "beef", a boyfriend with a restraining order against him, an elevator assault on a girl.

So how did you handle these situations?

Talked the fired guy out of anger, after a few minutes. There was a moment, that could have been a reason to "act". If I was younger, probably would have. But, stayed the course, and diffused it verbally.

The restraining order thing. He had been let in before I arrived one night. When the call came down, I went up, the guard I was relieving called the police. With a small confrontation, he left the building and was caught outside, by the police.

The assault... She ran out of the elevator, he followed, with his pants down, trying to pull them up. I put her to the side and got between them. I knew this employee (the guy) from incidents, where I used to work before. So, I got him under control, and to sit in the lobby. I paid for her cab home. He lost his job the next morning.

You handled these quite well. I'm impressed. How long were you training before these happened?

I last trained in January of 2000. However, over all, I started practicing the Martial Arts when I was 5-6. I took years off, here and there, over that time. All of those incidents happened over the last year.

Was your job as a result of your training, or was something you had always thought of doing? I had wondered, many of the security/police I have met were already training in a type of a martial arts/contact sport (such as wrestling) before they took up their profession, whether there was a correlation.

Funny enough, I started out about ten years ago, figuring it was just going to be a summer job. I took on the schedule of staying up at night, and was going to school. I figured it would allow me to study, and I liked how quiet the 3rd shift was. For me, the MA's had nothing to do with it.
