You'll get great leg endurance and static strength, although I recommend squats more than a horse as dynamic strength is a bit more important.

Standing in a static horse stance helps to condition and strengthen ligaments and tendons in the legs and knee. Squats only engage those areas for a short limit of time. When thinking of strength and muscles you have to remember that there are 3 things that are involved in strengthening. Muscles, tendons, ligaments. Most people get the Muscle aspect of getting stronger but very few do anything that strengthens the tendons and ligaments.

From a physical perspective, our tendons and ligaments do get strong the way our muscles get strong. This is why you can get some guy with big leg muscles who is only able to hold a horse stance for about 10 - 30 seconds tops. It is also part of the reason why you football players have lots of tendon and ligament damage (not including the damage from hits).

If you do squats your muscles will get strong but your tendons and ligaments will still be weak. This is why Tai Chi is so good for senior citizens. It helps strengthen those weak tendons and ligaments which are so important for mobility.
