It’s ok, I had to take a Tolkien break to rid my memory of those travesty movies they made. I was never so angry as when I saw what they did to that man’s fine books. I would have seen Peter Jackson dragged by horses for his crimes. He may as well have **** on the Mona Lisa and called it art.

Agreed. The Lord of the Rings movies stayed close enough to the story that I wasn’t upset by them. I appreciated what he did with a monumental task.

The Hobbit was shocking. He just re-wrote the whole story and much of it was downright ridiculous.

I am constantly trying to find techniques to incorporate in my personal fighting toolbox, that is back-friendly and that is effectively and conserved energy. I often come up with ideas and in kumite that dont work as well as in my head as the only way to pressure test stuff with timing is to actually do it.

The good news is other day I find an something that will be keeper and that i will develop.

The idea is to incorporate more sabaki movement, and do it forecully and immediatel counter with a turning attack of some kind. This is perfect for me for several reasons and it make me happy that this seems promising. The core idea is that with limited footwoork, instead use hard deflections, and blocks, with only single stepping, and merge the evasion with an immediate counter.

I will probably look more at som of the MA that does alot of sabaki for inspiration, like aikido. continuing the initiated circular motion and turn it into a counter is smoother for the back than bouncing back and forth or reversing motion. It also save lots of energy. All good traits for me!

Definitely visit Circular Quay (with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House). Been there a few times, beautiful area.

And enjoy the Blue Mountains when you get there... just stunning...

The Blue Mountains were indeed stunning, kinda looks like the American West but with lots of greenery. And we saw wild kangaroos, a high point of the trip.

We spent a few days in Port Douglas, took a river tour and saw salt water crocodiles, and some really really big spiders as well as little lizards and birds, was a great time.

Just got home this evening, from the time we left the hotel in Katoomba to our arrival at home was 28 hours and 40 minutes. It’s been a long day of travel and we are sad that it is over, but had a wonderful time in Australia and look forward to future visits to see other parts of the country. I’ve been wishing to visit for some 40 years and am so happy to have finally made it.

Australian wildlife is fiddlsticking COOL! 'Specially love the roos and the birdies. If ever I have the readies, I'm going. Australia has everything I love- wildlife, opera, beautiful landscapes, wine, art, martial arts...

One thing I had hoped to see was the night sky. There is a different set of stars in the southern hemisphere, and a more direct view into the body of the Milky Way Galaxy. Unfortunately it was overcast and at times raining everywhere we went. According to the weather app, things would clear up as soon as we left and get cloudy as soon as we arrived. So I didn’t get to see the stars. I need to come back, if for no other reason than to see the night sky.

We did a day of snorkeling on the barrier reef but it being winter the water was cold and choppy and the wet suits available to us were inadequate. We enjoyed it but better equipment would have improved the experience. My wife and I are scuba divers but our son, age 11, is not, which is why we chose to snorkel. So there is a reason to get back to the reefs in the future.

The opera house was really cool, and the Sydney botanical gardens. The observatory was a surprise, and I didn’t get a chance to take a tour, but enjoyed stumbling into it during our wandering.
