- Kung fu is “a” martial art from China
- Kung fu is from Shaolin
- All Kung fu comes from Shaolin
- Taijiquan is only for slow moving meditation.... and not kung fu

A few of my "favorites"...

Black belts must register their hands. Why is it always hands and not feet too?
It's some kind of sin to wash your belt. If you sweat on it, wash that nasty thing.
Your belt must never touch the floor. I wonder what these people do during ground fighting...
Our Koga tradition was passed down in secret for generations. Here's a link to our website.

One of my favorites is the opposite of many others. That we are all like Caine in "Kung Fu" & we always turn the other cheeck.

- And David Caradine is Chinese.

This reminded me of a couple more myths that I sometime think the person the myths are about actually believes

- David Caradine is a Kung Fu master
- Davis Caradine is a Taijiquan Master

Reading about the movies reminded me of another one.

That because you study a martial art, that somehow you know EVERY OTHER martial artist out there, no matter what style. I don't know how many times I have been asked that question. "Oh, you study karate? Do you know Mr. X that lives five hours away and studies judo?"

Another pet peeve:

"So, boy, you think you can kick me faster than I can shoot you?"

My answer:

"No, probably not...but try to get the gun first."

Reading this and picturing it all, nearly had me in tears!

I find it annoying how some think that you can and will be able to break anything. Wood, steel, whatever.

And if someone knows that you're in any kind of martial art, they have no problem asking you at any time of the day, anywhere, around anyone...most of the time, in large crowds.

Here's another one I've heard: "I'm too weak to join a martial art."

Another myth...

There are really ninjas out there. And they all go to the same ninja academy.

I meant to add this one to my previous post...

Most people believe that the average person uses only 10% of their brain (which has been disproven, by the way)....learning and mastering a martial art, any martial art, will unlock the other 90% of your brain to use, which can include the ability to float and use the force.

These are "myths" that martial arts students buy into. And no less silly than the ones that non-martial artists believe.

Another one of this sort is the belief that learning some advanced, "secret technique" will somehow enable you to overcome most any opponent. Ha!

Oh, and regarding that story about the nun who is said to have invented Wing Chun... on another thread a guy set me straight. "It's silly to think it was a nun when actually", he stated, "it was the abbot." LOL.

Some of my favorites:

1. mind manipulation powers
2. all black belts are invincible
3. black belts do not need practice
4. we all know how to use chopsticks
5. black belts have no fear
6. we are all compared to the mma fighters and asked if we could beat whoever the hot fighter is at the time.

In the spirit of bushido!
