Learning a new Karate style

Honestly, I would. People need to stop being overly respectful in martial arts, it's ruining the art.

If you're skilled you belong with the best, I'm not paying to train with scrubs even at a new dojo.
I wouldn't recommend it, in an MA school, not without first signing a waiver that you won't sue them... but you do you

Sifu of course I'm gonna do my paperwork. All I'm saying is once you get to a certain level you shouldn't live in fear of the big boys at the new club.

Buka, this is the deepest and wisest thing I remember you saying over the past decade!..........I have no idea what it means. This humble one will require a cave and a year of meditation to reach enlightenment.
Yeah, I got that off a tea bag just before I spilled the tea.

Did you do that, walk in to a black belt class at a Kyukushin karate dojo ?

Nah, I've grown too powerful for Kyukushin now so it wouldn't be fair to them.
Also I need to face fighters man enough to hit me in the nose, those boys can't throw a jab for their lives

Why would anyone live in fear of a new club? but respect is something different, and it does not sound like you have that. If I am wrong, my apologies, but if you don't, I do not recommend heading to China to train, they will happily take your money, but not take you seriously at all, or simply ask you to leave. And they are not worried about getting sued in China

I'm actually a very respectful guy Sifu, and I'm definitely not foolish with my money. And I'm not stupid enough to be disrespectful in a country I'm brand new to.

I was coming at it from the perspective of attending new schools in my area, I would absolutely not invest money just to start training like a beginner. If I were to start learning Kyoukushin, I'd place myself with the black belts because I simply have the skill and I can back it up.

I wouldn't dare do something like that in Chen village where I have no rep no experience no nothing, but if I walked into some random school in Toronto or Montreal, I'm walking to the highest ranks for sure.

But you wrote you honestly would

I'm a man of my word. I would. Right now I'm more interested in Chinese Martial Arts and Thai Boxing, if I were to invest my time in karate I would get diminishing returns because of how experienced I already am in the field.

I'm looking for greener pastures, Kyukushin wouldn't do that for me just because of my years upon years of karate experience.

For someone else tho, Kyukushin would be a great pick

No.

There are some clubs out there you don't fool around with or you will get crippled.

This is grappling not striking. But Craig Jones famously broke a guys leg in a seminar.

And look. You are probably not equiped to stop Craig Jones. I know I am not.

I'm more careful with BJJ for sure, not too experienced in the field and you're way more vulnerable to injury there.

As for the "scary clubs", I'm pretty well traveled and the closest space I got to that was High School Boxing šŸ’€šŸ’€

I'd expect high level martial artists to be more health conscious and long term orientated, and while injury is a risk that comes with the art, I wouldn't be too scared walking into a black belt kyoukushin class with my goju ryu background.

Like Yin and Yang, contradiction is a paradox of complementarity. As long as the veneer of bullshite isn’t thicker than the heart of the warrior, there’s rarely a downside and good, like the better martial fighter, will prevail. 😊
Well I do know there's tons of controversy in the martial arts but when somebody contradicts themselves, that's silly.

been in CMA for 30 years, 99% of the teachers I have trained with did not care about rank. Also trained at a school that has a red sash as partof the uniform
Yes as I said that's common in the Chinese arts, although I've also seen some of those arts adopt ranking systems of some sort, either with belt colors or with symbols on the belt or with patches on the uniform.
when was that postion made clear?
I don't know if I've made it clear before but Im making it clear now.
I have nothing against belts, before CMA I trained Japanese Jiujutsu and TKD
Some people care about belts some people don't but as I said in the earlier post, its silly to contradict yourself about whether or not you think belts are important (or to contradict yourself about anything for that matter.)

Seen some CMA schools with belt ranks, i just didn’t train there. Belt ranks were adopted for western practitioners. They don’t use them in China for Chinese students

I don’t think i have done that. Belts are not important to me, but if they are to others, thats ok too

In modern wushu sometimes a broader and stretchy belt is used as sort of a stabilizer for lower back/waist area, it’s worn under the uniform jacket. Some aikido players wear a similar broader belt for same purpose

Well do you run or teach at a dojo or martial arts school that uses belts of rank?

So, sort of like what weightlifters used to wear, back in the day some weightlifters would wear these big belts for back support although I haven't seen them around for some time.

Do not use belts or ranks at all… never did when i had my own guan, and don’t now at the guan i teach at once a week. And based on what i already said, that you quoted, how is this relevant?

And even if the school i teach/taught at has belt ranks…that it there prerogative ….I don’t use them…if i were train at a school that uses them, and that is a possibility, it makes no difference to me. It’s there style, it’s their school it’s their rules. Does not affect me either way.
