Arrow punches/chain punches

how effective do you think these are in a real fight? i like that in JKD we use western Boxing which i find more effective
Bruce knew what worked !

thoughts ?

Using the concept of the "Straight Blast" alternating with right/left straight punches and shifting footwork to "run them down" has been effective in MMA. Vitor Belfort used it on multiple occasions.

As with all techniques, there is a time and place for it.

yeah i dig that

western Boxing is in my opinion superior to chain punches & Bruce & Guru Dan brought fencing footwork & Kali into JKD.
fighting a 90kg / 198 Lb european guy is not like a 60kg / 132 Lb china man

For us both are primarily a training device. Yet, I guess you could throw them out there and pull them off.

Our Wing Chun puts a lot of emphasis on maintaining contact and force handling. With that in mind we will launch attacks from whatever hand position we are in relative to what the opponent's force is telling us. We generally wouldn't simply throw a bunch of continuous punches unless there was minimal risk of leaving ourself open.

how would you rate your footwork to say JKD or Boxing?

Wing Chun foot work is similar to Xingyiquan, but also shares some similarities to JKD

Agreed, I however I have seen some Wing Chun practitioners place to much emphasis on the chain punch…. Thanks to, IMO, any of the Ip Man related movies

no JKD uses more fencing & western Boxing ..a mix really
Wing Chun is too static nothing like a fencer or western boxer
I know JKDs stance and movement, I’ve trained it, also trained wing chun, and it is not static, at least not with my sifu. Still need to advance and retreat and move side to side in a fight, side to side and angular movements are similar to JKD. You don’t just stand there and punch in Wing Chun, it moves. Also a lot of similarities to Xingyiquan, main difference, Xingyiquan stance is back weighted and JKD is front weighted. And I have trained all 3

WC does not move like a Boxer.. maybe you“ve never done western boxing
Bobbing, weaving & the footwork is totally different to WC

I never said it was like western boxing, mainly because we are talking jeet kune do and what was adapted from fencing. Not taking western boxing at all. what I said was there were similarities between JKD and Wing Chun, especially in movement side to side and angular movement. Similar does not mean the same and JKD does not mean boxing

If you look at Bruce in older film footage..i would say he moves more like a western fighter than a chinese WC man
Hong Kong roof top fighting in the 50s & 60s between 2 chinese guys is not like fighting a western man trained in Boxing
Bruce quickly knew this & adapted

If you are looking at movie footage.... he did not quickly know and adapt.... he had all the time in the world to choreograph..... Judging people's fighting ability by their movie appearance does not give you an accurate picture.

Could we forget about the boxing bit, I never compared Wing Chun foot work to boxing, only said Wing Chun footwork had SIMILARITIES to JKD

watch it

Did you post the video you thought you did? That one is Bruce training the other guy. Of course we reacts well to the attacks.... that he asked the other guy to throw. He is correcting the other guys technique. If the text below is correct, they are training for movie fight choreography. This is not an example of Bruce fighting a guy with a different, unknown to Bruce, fighting style that he has to adapt to at real time. This is Bruce training someone for a movie fight scene, going over the basics for the different moves.

stop waffling ..you clearly see his footwork

Don’t think @wab25 post is waffling he seems to have made up his mind and is rather clear about it. But I did notice you went on the attack instead of answering a simple question

Waffling is defined as
  1. NORTH AMERICAN ENGLISH
fail to make up one's mind.
"Joseph had been waffling over where to go"

  2. BRITISH ENGLISH
speak or write, especially at great length, without saying anything important or useful.

OK so you are avoiding my question
