In the newer HD's if the battery fails the bike will shut down.

The battery is new..I was "backing out of a parking space..I flipped the switch to turn the ignition on..I had to cock the wheel to the right to avoid a pothole..I hit the start button and It kicked for a sec and then everything died,,

If you lost everything then it could be something simple like the battery connections or worse,"the big computer brain". I agree, H.D. = High Dollars.
For the much older "bowling ball" version, H.D. = Highly Defective.
