No problem....I'm Chair Force, someone calling me Army is almost a compliment!

Anyway, I did a year deployment with the Army. Loved it!

I was a civilian for the Army and for the Navy, and a contractor (consultant) for the Air Force. Still waiting for a chance to serve the USCG!

Awesome! You've really made the rounds, Arni!

My brother's a Civilian with the USCG now.

May I ask what you did/do?

A good friend of mine was a lifer in the AF and now works for the Army. I give him hell about he's actually working for the military now!

I have a few friends that left Active Duty to go civilian and they all say they work more now.

Although, I've heard the stress level drops off a lot....plus none of the deployments.

That is one thing my friend would agree with. He's only responsible for himself now, so lots less stress.

Plus - as a civilian...you pretty much have to come to work drunk for a month, lose the government a few million and kill a few people to lose your job.

Active Duty - one or two bad Evals and you're gone.

I was a professor at NPS (Monterey) and USMA (West Point). While at USMA I also worked at ARL (Adelphi). After I left the govt. I worked as a research consultant for 3 months for NSWC (Dahlgren), then for AFRL (Dayton). I did mostly radar stuff and target recognition stuff.

Agree that it's (too) hard to fire a civilian.
Last year I worked at Sandia National Labs. (Albuquerque) for a year.

WOW - quite a resume....I havent' decided if I'll get out or go civilian.

TSD is going great! Getting ready to test for Cho Dan within the next month.

Here's my favorite military joke, and it's one that only people like you will appreciate:

Everyone talks about the need for greater cooperation between the services. But how can they be expected to cooperate when they don't even speak the same language? Take for example the verb 'to secure':

-If you ask the Army to secure a building, they'll set up a perimeter and post guards.

-If you ask the Marines to secure a building, they'll charge in and take control of it.

-If you ask the Navy to secure a building, they'll padlock the doors and put an "Out of Order" sign in the window.

-And if you ask the Air Force to secure a building, they'll take out a 10 year lease with an option to buy.

They'll never be able to cooperate!
