Sorry that you are having a rough day. I’ll in the same boat tomorrow, just me and the kids.

As for your fire place don’t do this a lot but in the case of wet wood just use a little charcoal lighter fluid. It’s bad for the vent pipes but it will get the wood to burn fast.

I finally got the fire going really well, but no lighter fluid, so I cut some branches off the christmas tree...the sap lit right up. Probably have to have the stove pipe swept again after this. My problem wasn't that the wood was wet, it's just too green. I like to use the wood that sat in the pile for at least a year before it will burn in my stove very well. My stove is frustrating cause it's really rusty, has no flu, and no seals around the doors. Hard to keep it going and get it to burn hot too. Thanks for the tips Hemi.

Today my kid's start there Christmas break so I am at home with two hooligans. I will probably teach them some martial arts today!

Sounds good!! I'm off today as well, and I have a long list of things that need to get done. First and foremost, at the top of that list is one of my least favorite things...laundry!!!!

Yes I have about 10 loads of laundry to do and if I can get them done then I can relax over the weekend.

Well, the good thing about laundry is while its washing, that leaves time to post on MT, and then when its drying, that leaves more time to post again! LOL! And before I no longer have light in the kitchen, I need to replace the bulbs that all seemed to blow out simultaneously!
