An exceptional example, we can hope, of what can arise when someone has their sexual knowledge and expectations shaped by pornography. This is what I have ever tried to put forward whenever we have discussed this matter here at MT i.e. that pornography used to stimulate and entertain for an adult is one thing but quite another when the very young use it as 'education'.

I think that our society has such repressed notions of sexuality that our inability to discuss what constitutes healthy sexual response and healthy emotional relationships is actively perpetuating the problem. The "head in the sand" approach is still very much the norm and it clearly doesn't provide for the needs of young people who are beginning to reach sexual awareness and explore. Just like when we were kids; today's kids will fill the void with any information they can find. And today, they find a lot more than our dad's Playboy. I'm convinced, as a parent, that you have to get to them first with the truth so that they have some tools to sort out what is real and what is healthy.
