Looking for a legit tai chi class around Lexington or Winchester. Someone who is an expert

All i can tell you is stay away from the Taoist Tai Chi Society. Other than that i have no idea what is in Lexington

I can probably come up with a couple of names, but I’ve never had a chance to work out with any of the Tai Chi people around here so I can’t say anything about how good they are. What are you looking for specifically from Tai Chi? General health, martial application, etc?

Mainly looking for health but wouldn’t mind some martial applications

Any answers?? Lol
Honestly, with the state of the art today, don't expect to just go and find someone "in lexington". Your best bet today is online classes.

Anyways, Tai Chi for health is going to become a dead horse very soon... we've seen where that road goes and it's not good :)

Well that’s good news, then ppl that always bangin on how bad Taiji for health is can leave it alone

If you train Taiji for combat, you will get health benefit. If you train Taiji for health, you will not get combat benefit.

So, where around Lexington can you learn combat tai chi?
No idea. I'm pretty sure both the instructors I know of focus on practicing for health. Statistically speaking, there's a good chance that there isn't a good Tai Chi for combat instructor in the area. They aren't that common.

I suspect there are no teachers in that area who can provide what you are looking for. I imagine there are other schools offering instruction in other martial arts and I suggest you take a look at those. Look around, see what you find.

I need some names
No ymca close to me
If you are only looking for Taijiquan for health, then i recommend Google- fu. I just did a google search and came up with 4 places teaching taijiquan in the Lexington area, and i am pretty sure they are all for heath. Just don’t go to the Taoist tai chi society. They are IMO more of a cult than a legitimate taijiquan school

As for the Y, not near you!? There is one in Lexington, again Google came up either that. And on there Y website they say they have taijiquan. Now the Lexington branch may not have it, but you would need to call to check

Basically I don’t think there is anyone on MT who can give you a specific recommendation. If you truly want taijiquan, you need to do some web searching, make some calls, check out some schools and do the leg work

Now this bit ā€œtaiji for combatā€ or ā€œcombat taijiā€ generally are not true taijiquan schools/classes. Generally some one with a background in another martial art (example: karate) who learns the Beijing 24 form, and applies karate to it. It is most certainly not how taiji works as a martial art.

Finding a taijiquan class these days, that is still complete with the martial arts side intact is incredibly rare. What makes it even harder to find is if one exists, it is likely taut y an older Chinese person, and they tend not to advertise

Sorry I typed that on my iPhone so

but just thought of this, I am assuming Lexington Kentucky, there are multiple cities in multiple states called Lexington. Also multiple states have both Winchester and Lexington.... what state are we talking about here?

I actually live a couple hours southeast of Lexington Ky so when I said I have no local YMCA I meant it lol….very rural area. I know Lexington has several YMCA but if I were going to travel 2 hours I want an expert

Might try reaching out to :

Kentucky Chinese American Association (KYCAA), a non-profit and non-political organization, is committed to serving the communities in Kentucky by promoting the appreciation of Chinese culture and heritages and enhancing cross-cultural understanding through educational programs. KYCAA provides opportunities for interaction, networking, and collaborations among its members and between members and their communities."

They might offer or know of someone who teaches taiji in the area.....

good luck šŸ‘
