Here's an oldy but goody that never fails to inspire me. It reminds me of a good friend and mentor who after being a marine in 'Nam came home and became an EMT until he retired a few years ago and moved to CO. Though he was a student for many years, he taught me a lot. Here's to you Bill!

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel lift me up
And I open bloodshot eyes into fluorescent white
They flip the siren, hit the lights, close the doors and I am gone

Now I lay here owing my life to a stranger
And I realize that empty words are not enough
I'm left here with the question of just
What have I to show except the promises I never kept?
I lie here shaking on this bed, under the weight of my regrets

I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound

Look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares
It gets me down but I'm still gonna try to do what's right, I know that there's
A difference between sleight of hand, and giving everything you have
There's a line drawn in the sand, I'm working up the will to cross it and

I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound

Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of always talking when there's no change
Rhetoric can't raise the dead
I'm sick of empty words, let's lead and not follow

Late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
Red light, can't stop so I spin the wheel
My world goes black before I feel an angel steal me from the
Greedy jaws of death and chance, and pull me in with steady hands
They've given me a second chance, the artist in the ambulance

I hope that I will never let you down
I know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound

Can we pick you off the ground,
...more than flashing lights and sound

Thanks to Fark, I found this clip of Paul Westerberg playing 'Here Comes a Regular'. This song saved my life.

Sea of hurt, I feel the waves of pain
And now the tides come in again
I'm caught in a vicious cycle of despair
Give me the courage to face another day

Brand New Day

This appeared as a moral dilemma cuz at first
it was weird that I swore to eliminate the worst
of the plague that devoured humanity, it’s true
I was vague on the how so how can it be that you
have shown me the light

It’s a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing
That you’re gonna die
How I hesitated
Now I wonder why
It’s a brand new day

All the times that you beat me unconscious
I forgive
All the crimes left completeless and honestly
I’ll live
Mr. Cool, Mr. Right , Mr. Know-it-all is through
Now the future’s so bright
And I owe it all to you
Who Showed me the light

It’s a brand new me
I’ve got no remorse
Now the water’s rising
But I know the course
I’m gonna shock the world,
Gonna show Bad Horse
It’s a brand new day

And Penny will see the evil me
Not a joke, not a dork, not a failure
And she may cry
but her tears will dry,
When I hand her the keys
to a shiny new Australia

It’s a brand new day
Yeah the sun is high
All the angels sing
Because you’re gonna die
Go ahead and laugh, yeah
I’m a funny guy
Tell everyone goodbye
It’s a brand new day

Haven`t had a chance to check the whole list yet, so if this is a repeat I appologize.

You shoulda seen the look on the faces of my dad and mom when I showed up at the door with my date for the senior prom. They said 'Son, that ain`t no kid. That`s a cocktail waitress in a Dolly Parton wig' an I said 'I know it dad. Ain`t she cool? That`s the kind I dig!"

http://www.jpopasia.com/lyrics/8698/ayaka/okaeri.html

Ayaka sings the song Okaeri(welcome back home) It is from a Japanese drama called Zettai Kareshi(Absolute Boyfriend) One of the main characters on the show(Soshi) played by Hiro Mizushima is married to Ayaka. The main character Riiko played by Saki Aibu is so cute!!
On the link presents the song in that little box so you can hear it I did not post the Japanese lyrics since most can not read it.
anyway here:
Welcome home, sweet home
A place to go home to (yeah)
Thanks for your love

Pretending to be alright again
to paint out the color of sadness
I just laugh it off

The importance of believing
Even if I understand it
Well, there are times when I still doubt

Times when my empty body
just flows by
It makes me want to just lie down, but
I just want to hold you
These feelings stab through me so I can move on

Welcome home, I'm home
With one word my heart is satisfied
Welcome home, sweet home
A place to go home to (yeah)
Thanks for your love
Sweet home

I used to believe adults think
only of themselves and they are cunning
But there are people desperately trying to go back
Even screaming out loud
I finally realized that

There is no such thing as
one natural happiness in this world
For your sake, I was able to realize that
By carrying these feelings,
I can move on

Welcome home, I'm home
Accelerating the speed of everyday
Welcome home, Sweet home
There will always be this unchanging scenery
Sweet home

Searching for the missing
wound in my heart
The thing that made me fight and go on
Was because there was a “welcome home”

Welcome home, I'm home
With one word my heart is satisfied
Welcome home, sweet home
where love
has a place to go home to (yeah)
Thank for your love

Welcome home, I'm home
It’s alright because you are here
Welcome home, sweet home
keep waiting, because I’m arriving soon
Sweet home

oh yeah
Welcome home… sweet home

I heard this song last night, I like it, it brought back lots of memories (none political) and I have not heard it in years but for some reason it is making me think about politics in America today

Emerson, Lake And Palmer - Karn Evil 9 - 1st Impression, Part 2

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
Come inside! Come inside!
There behind a glass is a real blade of grass
be careful as you pass.
Move along! Move along!

Come inside, the show's about to start
guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you'll get your money's worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell or Earth.
You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo.
You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll ....

Right before your eyes we pull laughter from the skies
And he laughs until he cries then he dies then he dies
Come inside the shows about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart

You gotta see the show
It's a dynamo
You gotta see the show
It's rock and roll

Soon the Gypsy Queen in a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!
Next upon the stand will you please extend a hand
to Alexander's Ragtime Band
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Performing on a stool we've a sight to make you drool
Seven virgins and a mule
Keep it cool. Keep it cool.
We would like it to be known the exhibits that were shown
were exclusively our own,
All our own. All our own.
Come and see the show! Come and see the show! Come and see the show!
See the show!

Hi Jenna, thank you and sorry for the delay in response. As to why I posted it at this time, I only recently became aware of the video when someone put it up over at fark.com. It's a nice solo rendition that makes the song just a bit more melancholy. I think I posted the lyrics way back when, it's buried somewhere in thes 600-or-so posts. ;) Let's just say that once upon a time I had a bit of a problem with the drink, and the song helped me to realize the hole I was digging myself into. You do these things day after day and you get into a rut, and it's hard to steer your way out into another direction.

Thanks for the Killing Joke link, I've heard of them but never heard their music. Pretty dark for a song in which he speaks of feeling a sense of elation! lol. Thank you for that, I've got the song off iTunes now.

For one who probably knows who she is...

Hey (Paul McDermott)

Hey you,
Where did you go off, long ago
Although worlds came between us
And I’m feeling sure of
Your love, you know!
If you ease on back , you’ll let the fever go
It’s only right that I should let you know
What you should know…

I’ve been waiting
All my life for you to come home
I have been waiting
All my life for you to come home

Now the feelings coming back
We lose from time to time
Another mess of language
Strung out across the line
All of us just craving for
Another perfect day!
We stretch out for the starlight,
With words clouding the way

Hey you,
If you’re still low,
Then come outside
It’s wintertime and the sun is shining for you
To restore you, you know
You stand out on the ledge just like a child
And Heaven waits for you beyond your trial
Oh, when you smile

I’ve been waiting
All my life for you to come home
I have been waiting
All my life for you to come home

Now the feelings coming back
We lose from time to time
Another mess of language
Strung out across the line
All of us just craving for
Another perfect day!
We stretch out for the starlight,
With words clouding the way

Hey you!

I’ve been waiting
All my life for you to come home
I have been waiting
All my life for you to come home
I will be waiting
All my life for you to come home
I have been waiting
All my life
For you to come home…

Now J, while I am not adverse to Cuban heels and Depeche Mode, I have thoroughly enjoyed the trek through the 70's... I have some classic old Aerosmith playing at the moment (Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Dream On, love 'em all!).

But a current major song in my playlist is from The Verve Pipe. These guys had the unfortunate timing of releasing their best material at the same time as The Verve were raising their popularity (before the plagarism lawsuits from the Stones...), so kinda got lost along the way. Anyway, a sad, beautiful song, if you can find the acoustic version, it is just gorgeous...

The Freshmen (The Verve Pipe)

When I was young I knew everything
And she a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt stricken, sobbin' with my head on the floor
Stop a Baby's Breath and a shoe full of rice, no...

I can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of valium and slept
And now he's guilt stricken sobbin' with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept he says

I can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen
hey yay e yay e yay e yay e yay hey yay e yay e

We've tried to wash our hands of all of this
We never talk of our lack in relationships
And how we're guilt stricken sobbin' with our heads on the floor
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip, we'd say

I can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
And I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

We were merely freshmen
We were only freshmen

Okay J, a happier one. I'm not really one for uplifting lyrics, I go for the energy of a song to pick me up, and often go for the contradiction in lyrical darkness combined with upbeat musicality... that said, if I want a pick-up, I go to my comedic stalwarts.

From the Doug Anthony Allstars (slight warning that certain concepts may need to be explained to small children):

The Sailors Arms (A Love Song)

I met her at the 'Sailor Arms'
A bar down by the docks
Full of prostitutes and deviants
And fellows wearing frocks
Went there to drown my sorrow
My misery and paaaiiiiaaaiiiiaan
With fourteen multicoloured pills
And a pint of heavy ale(heavy ale)

And I saw this girl across the way
Who was smiling through the wine
So I begged her come on over
Come on over, spend some time
And I spilled my life before her
And she seemed to understand
Although she was a girl
We were talking man to man(man to man)

[Chorus]
For love is where you find it
Wherever that may be
For me it was in the Sailors Arms
At twenty-five past three
There's something strange about her
I can't put my finger on
But I wanna tell the world
That she's the one(she's the one)
I wanna tell the world
That she's the one...

She strolled up to the toilets
She strolled into the Gents
I asked her why she did it
Why she'd gone to pay the rent
We arm-wrestled and I lost
She beat me with a spike
Told me filthy jokes
That were quite unlady-like(lady-like)

It was four in the morning
And through the smokey haze
I could've been mistaken
But she needed to shave(to shave)

[Chorus]
For love is where you find it
Wherever that may be
For me it was in the Sailors Arms
With a better man than me
Her husky voice seduced me
My heart was in a mess
I sat upon her knee
As something twitched beneath her dress
There's something more than knees beneath her dress

You've got nice eyes says I
(Oh Sir, I am suprised)
What large hands I said
(All the better to touch you with)
God, you arms look strong
(A woman's work is never done)
Your legs are quite hirsuite
(Aren't you the saucy one!)

I was feeling less than stable
When she said her name was Ken(Ken!)
Well if I had suspicions
Lord I should've had 'em then(then!)
She cried as she told me
How she was so confused
One more visit to the doctor
She'd have nothing left to lose(Toulouse-Lautrec)

I ran my fingers through her wig
She lightly stroked my hair
She said she was a man...
(Whoa whoa! She said she was a man?
A man called Ken - Bull-twang!)
Lots of men are called Ken.
(So what did you say?)
I told her I don't care
(He doesn't care!)

[Chorus]
For love is where you find it
Wherever that may be
For me it was in a hopper bin
With my trousers 'round my knees
There's something strange about her
I just put my finger on
And I want to tell the world
That she's the one(he's the one)
I want to tell the world
That its the one!
