Animal I Have Become lyrics
Songwriters: Stock, Barry; Brown, Gavin; Gontier, Adam; Sanderson, Neil; Walst, Brad;
I can't escape this hell
So many times I've tried
But I'm still caged inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal!
This animal, this animal

I can't escape myself
So many times I've lied
But there's still rage inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become

Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal

Somebody help me through this nightmare
I can't control myself
Somebody wake me from this nightmare
I can't escape this hell

This animal, this animal
This animal, this animal
This animal, this animal
This animal

So what if you can see the darkest side of me
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become

Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal!
This animal I have become

As ever, your wish, my lady... for the record, it was Temptation from the Tea Party, a Canadian band I liken to the band Jimmy Page and Jim Morrison would have formed if they been in Canada in the 90's. Seriously eclectic rock.

Something that means a lot to me... well, they all have, otherwise I would not have posted them. But to remove the game aspect, and give this back it's purity, I humbly extend this simple offering:

Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley version)

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
And she tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

(Yeah but) Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor, (You know)
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
and love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah...

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Written by Leonard Cohen, this is a most favoured song to hear and play. But Jeff's version is my favourite.

@searcher, Hey those are two very fraught and angsty songs, no? Thank you though I hope you are ok that you are listening to them. One of the most poignant pieces of work I know. I can barely watch this without a tear

@Chris Parker
, Hey Chris, there are I think probably few songs to rival Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. They bickered over it here following all that X-Factor nonsense. A great song. I could not better it. Still I will give you this. The unsurpassably talented David McAlmont and the wonderful Bernard Butler from Suede and now The Tears. This is a school disco song for me and but one that stuck with me forever since. This is my two-finger-salute, pick-yourself-up song that I roll out when I need it and which is all the time I think :)
You wanna know me now
How I've been
You can't help someone recover
After what you did
So tell me am I looking better?
Have you forgot
Whatever it was that you couldn't stand
About me, about me, about me?
Promise me if you listen that you do so with volume :)

Country Boy Can Survive by Hank Williams Jr.

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

This is for those times when I think of home and my people. The ones in the video remind me of the people I grew up with and My Dad's side of the family.

I am grateful to you for sharing something so personal, thank you :). I looked that up. Wow, what a truly wonderful video. The character vignettes are fascinatingly beautiful and a lyric displaying a rare compassion and integrity. I think personal integrity can be difficult to maintain when it can evoke prejudice among the ignorant. That is something I know about too. I would certainly have one to share with you back that reminds me of my own childhood and but I am not sure you would even be that interested anyways??? If you were, I would post it. And still, thank you for posting this :)

This is an original from me, so no worries from copyrighting infringements, I wrote it in High School many years ago. It is copyrighted by me, so please don't record it without my receiving a slice of the pie. "Don't call me honey, I ain't sweet, aint no damn disaccaride, don't promote no tooth decay..." the rest gets kind of obnoxious, but hey, I was young. Greatest? Well, my funniest...I still don't like being called honey, but I've gotten used to it over the years...probably misspelled "disaccaride", might be the only time "disaccaride" was in a song...

Well honey :) we will not argue over spelling and maybe you were the original disaccharide lyricist, though where you led, others followed it seems, ha! :D
Hey Joab do you play/write now since you left school?

Seminal! Posted this just because, well, just because I want to and because he totally rocked at Glastonbury at the weekend and because so much that has come since this has depended upon it (if not plagiarised it directly!) Springsteen, ahhhh :) Anyways, hope you like. Hope somebody likes?

Thanks, I liked the song, the vocalist has a lot better voice than I ever had, mind was kind of a cross between Steve Tyler and Bon Scott. The lyrics don't seem to come to me anymore, I had a burst of creativity back in High School, a whole album in my head and written down lyrics, now they just don't seem to come.

What is it? Who sang it? ...

I am a patient boy
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait
My time is water down a drain

Everybody's moving
Everybody's moving
Everything is moving,
Moving, moving, moving

Please don't leave me to remain
In the waiting room

I don't want the news
(I cannot use it)
I don't want the news
(I won't live by it)

Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
(Tell me why)

Because they can't get up
(Ahhh... Come on and get up)
(Come on and get up)

But I won't sit idly by
(Ahhh...)
I'm planning a big surprise
I'm gonna fight
For what I want to be

And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key
Inside the waiting room

I don't want the news
(I cannot use it)
I don't want the news
(I won't live by it)

Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
(Tell me why)

Because they can't get up
(Ahhh... Come on and get up)
Up from the waiting room

Sitting in the waiting room
(Ahhh...)
Sitting in the waiting room
(Ahhh...)
Sitting in the waiting room
(Ahhh...)
Sitting in the waiting room
(Ahhh...)

(Tell me why)
Because they can't get up

I have been pursuing the countless political rhubarbs on MT today :barf: and for some reason this song is running through my demented little brain

Peace Sells

What do you mean, "I don't believe in God"?
I talk to him every day.
What do you mean, "I don't support your system"?
I go to court when I have to.
What do you mean, "I can't get to work on time"?
I got nothing better to do
And, what do you mean, "I don't pay my bills"?
Why do you think I'm broke? Huh?

If there's a new way,
I'll be the first in line.
But, it better work this time.

What do you mean, "I hurt your feelings"?
I didn't know you had any feelings.
What do you mean, "I ain't kind"?
I'm just not your kind.
What do you mean, "I couldn't be the president of the
United States of America"?
Tell me something, it's still "We the people", right?

If there's a new way
I'll be the first in line,
But, it better work this time.

Can you put a price on peace?
Peace,
Peace sells...,
Peace,
Peace sells...,
Peace sells...,but who's buying?
Peace sells...,but who's buying?
Peace sells...,but who's buying?
Peace sells...,but who's buying?
No, peace sells...

@Joab - a Steve Tyler and Bon Scott cross? Man, that sounds to me like a great talent gone wanting? Maybe you are just short on practice; writer's block or whatnot?? I bet you could come up with something real easy if you tried. You have to promise me that at least. I hate to hear of talent not fully actualised. So? :)

@celtic_crippler, hey you, man that is a great choon, Fugazi, yes? Called Waiting room, or In the Waiting Room, right? ha Oh you are a bit of a headbanger then?? :) Cool. Here is one back for you. Do not know if you know Bob Mould / Sugar??
I saw them from the ocean
She didn't seem to mind
Didn't fight at all
She didn't fight it at all
Some things are best left alone
Sometimes I'm best left alone
And sometimes I see you in the water
At night at night at night

That's a good idea she said she said
I wanna feel you in the water
With your hands on my head
Push you down into the water
She said she said
Now that's a good idea she said she said
Now that's a good idea that's a good idea
She said she said

@Xue Sheng :) ah, nothing else for it sometimes :D Sometimes when I am reading stuff, I cannot help but have this song immediately brought to recall, haha..
I assume this still translates from English English to American English ;) One of the most intelligent English bands like ever, HMHB :) Hope you like or maybe gives you a smile :) Jenna

Dave Mustain is (or used to be anyway) pretty proactive politically. I love the guy...

Husker Du anyone? :) I'm a rather old head banger from way back that does his best to keep up with the newer stuff as well. Punk, Metal...don't matter. I even get into Ska. Guess I just tend to like the more underground stuff than the mainstream...

Remind me to tell you about the time I saw Black Flag at the Milestone in Charlotte back in the early 80's...that was before most people even knew what a mosh pit was. LOL

Hey J.

Kind of an odd one here...

The Doug Anthony Allstars were a comedy trio from here in Australia, and, although well known for their somewhat offensive comedic tendancies, they shared a great love of art and philosophy, which left definate marks on their material (for some jokes, you needed to understand Cartesian Logic, others made reference to Jungian psychology, still others were complex diatribes on politics or religion. Some just needed you to know what necrophilia was - and the difference between an "active" and "passive" necrophiliac...). So they were fun guys, and had one of the best control levels over an audience I've seen. But in each show, they would also perform a "ballad", showing off their well-honed vocal talents (particularly Paul).

One of my favourite of their ballads was a song penned by Paul McDermott, called "Bottle":

A stinking sun burned me awake,
Through the shattered windowpane,
I recalled through the eyes of claret red,
He had taken me again.
And the hair of the dog revives me,
But I find it hard to swallow,
It's a marriage made in heaven between me and the bottle.

A thousand words fell from my hands,
As the room just spins,
This sodden mattress holds my heart,
And he cradles my regrets.
I'll read it once again,
For he knows that I'll not follow.
It's a marriage of convenience between me and the bottle.

So king (soaking) alcohol comes back,
With the traffic's mournful cry.
And he swaggers, drunk and skinful,
Through my throat all parched and dry.
And if I should die before I wake,
I pray the lord my soul to take.
Then I could rest,
And never wake again in sorrow.
It's a marriage on the rocks between me and the bottle.

Beautiful song from some very naughty boys...

Hey lovely Helen :) well I am all for odd if you like and yes that certainly all reads very James Joyce I think!! Australians, see, cannot take them anywhere ;) Well thank you for expanding my limited horizons and I would give you something equally odd, but instead I will give you something with interminable Dylan gravitas, haha, not really - the sweetest Neil Hannon from Divine Comedy. I adore this song beautiful lilting and haunting all at once. They used this as the theme for Father Ted - did you get that down under at all??? Sounds twee at face value and but lyrically is subtle dark and sneaky and I love it :). Covered by Ben Folds too, though do not be confused, this was the original :)

Pale, pubescent beasts
Roam through the streets
And coffee-shops
Their prey gather in herds
Of stiff knee-length skirts
And white ankle-socks
But while they search for a mate
My type hibernate
In bedrooms above
Composing their songs of love

Jenna, I am officially your Number One Fan. Bob Mould is my favorite musician of all time!

And Ima throw this one out there:

Act of Remembrance - The Proclaimers
Arms of steel, hair of gold
Royal blue eyes, with a rebel soul
You scared me, you still do
But I loved you
More than you ever knew

This is my act of remembrance
My act of remembrance

Doctor's face, said the time had come
I stood up, and began to run
My boy's voice, called your name
You roared back and the silence came

This is my act of remembrance
My act of remembrance

Drove my car, to your street
Hoped a ghost, I would meet
Well that ghost, he's moved on
But his anger, Dad is it gone?
Is the pain gone, is it all gone?

This is my act of remembrance
My act of remembrance

This is my act of remembrance

Okay, J. I see your Father Ted theme song (and, yes, we do get the show here... we're not that out of touch, you know. Hell, Ben Folds lived in Adelaide for a while!), and raise you a very surreal English Sci Fi Comedy Theme Song. I give you... RED DWARF!

Its cold outside,
There's no kind of atmosphere,
I'm all alone,
More or less.
Let me fly,
Far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie,
Shipwrecked and comatose,
Drinking fresh,
Mango juice,
Goldfish shoals,
Nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

Enjoy the pleasure of the Ouroboros...

@CoryKS, hey you well you get a big smile for having impeccable taste, yes :) Hey that Proclaimers song is very beautiful and you are not all blood-and-thunder then and see now I do not know what to give you back, hmmm. Well, since that is such a precious poignant song, I give you this from Glasgow's current bright young things, Glasvegas. This makes me cry too much, hope it means even something to you too maybe :)

@Chris Parker
, Ah you have chosen cult TV as your weapon, haha, well, bring it :D Yes, they did a brand new Red Dwarf just there for Easter, hmm, it was, well, ok I guess. Just ok though. Well, here is one from you neck of the woods was my fav afterschool show. Oh wow Ada Nicodemou played Katerina and was my absolute heroine when I was an obnoxious teen. A role model indeed ;) And I was totally over the moon when I saw her as the white-rabbit inked girl in The Matrix :) Believe she was in Home and Away too, but I am never home to see it. Go on, tell me you watched this too? Who was your fav? Rivers was a badass too :) Can you guess what it is without looking?
