Had an enlightening conversation with my wife. She mentioned doomscrolling, and I said I don't understand that. How is scrolling instagram doomscrolling, when you just get happy seeing videos of various pets being happy, LOTR, and people being in love???

Turns out I just have a very positive feed because of the stuff I view/stay on. And I unfriend/unfollow people who are negative. Apparently a lot of people view negative stuff all the way through, so the algorithm sends them more negative things.

I can't imagine spending an hour (or all day apparently!) just watching negative things about the world.

I’m very new to the wide world of social media, MT was my very first venture ever. I had no Facebook or instagram. Ok I admit I had a My space a girlfriend created. My algorithm is almost all puppies, kayaking, reptiles, Staffordshire bull terriers, tattoos, Steelhead fishing. I really don’t think of doom. I could be doing something more productive or positive for sure. I feel like my passionate expression in person doesn’t translate well online. I’m a sincere and blunt person in general, it seems to serve me less and less.

My instagram feed, as mentioned, is LOTR, dogs, and people enjoying their animals. My tiktok is very similar.

My wife laughed hysterically last week when she went on youtube on her computer and forgot I signed in. All the recommended videos were about knife fighting, stretching, or chinese breathing techniques, as that's what I look up on youtube. Side note - I had no idea I had anything turned on causing youtube to determine what I want to watch.

I have very specific things I care about, and it seems to be much better (for me) than the average person's desire to watch drama/conflict/politics.
