After a lifetime of unskilled labor and an unsuccessful freelance web design business, I'm going back to school at 29 years old. Massage therapy! Wewt. Last monday I got the idea while watching Zatoichi. I got online and read about anma style massage, and was super interested. I'm already an adequate backrubber at least according to my wife. On tuesday I started looking at schools and emailing around to the local places. On wednesday I got an email back from CTA http://www.careerta.com/ and a phone call. I was impressed with their dillegence and gave them my attention. On thursday I went and talked with them and saw the school.. 10 minutes from my home, how convenient! On that day, I also decided on a course to take and I'll be going in to discuss financial aid. I got a crazy Idea and put it into effect in one week.

I seem to be doing a lot of this kind of thing lately. I blame it on kung fu.. One day I'm wandering into a kung fu school and 8 months later I'm 75 pounds lighter and going after degrees. Man, I can do anything.. Why didn't I realize when I was 15?

Anyhow.. I am scared to death of the Anatomy class. But I can't wait to get into the massage part.. What a perfect career.. Good hours, transferable skills, no license required in this state, plenty of great jobs in this area, and a career where I get to alleviate plain and give pleasure. I'm all about that stuff.

Hey that's great! Good luck to you!! I have a good friend in Santa Barbara who is a massage therapist and she is doing great. She has a good siz clientel. She works for herself and has one exciting lifestyle. No bosses to answer to, can go on trips without scheduling vacation time etc. Im sure you won't regret this decision. Again good luck and all the best in the future.......Steve

Good Luck on the new career! You're never too old to start something you're interested in. I started Kung-Fu at age 39 and now at age 41 I'm studying to be a medical transcriptionist. To tell the truth, I feel 25. Seeing those numbers as my actual age is scary...

Shao, that's TOTALLY AWESOME!! I want to do massage as well (always told I'd make a good living at it) and follow with physical therapy.

I studied manicuring where we had to learn anatomy up the arms and legs as well as a few general anatomy things. Really, there are acronyms and mnemonic devices to help you memorize names, and if you have studied any other language in addition to English, just remember that's all it is and you may be able to follow the Latin.

KUDOS AND BEST WISHES TO YOU!! Consider yourself repped.

Good luck! Anatomy can be difficult, but it's memorization, so time invested will pay off. Many students find those anatomy coloring books helpful.

if you joined a kung fu class at 28, and lost 75 pounds in 8 months, then YOU, my friend, is the MAN.
29 is a good age to go back to school
just make sure you dye those gray hairs (im only joking here)
think about it, you can get at least 15 more degrees (if you only live another 60 years)
i'd say go for it sir, and hope "someone!!!" doesnt screw the economy EVEN MORE by the time you graduate
good luck

Hey, don't feel bad shaolinwind- I'm the same age as you, and will be going back for 2 years. My mom is 55, and getting ready to finish her BSN degree!

You're never too old for school.

I just got my final grades for my first module in Massage Therapy school. This module, I studied Anatomy and Physiology 1, Kinesiology 1, aromatherapy, basic massage, and some crappy business related class.

The results.. A&P - 95. Kin - 97 The rest, 100.

I made the Director's list! Now that's good resume stuff, and yet another short term goal met.. Here's to 5 more months of A-studentry!

Congrats! Anything worth doing is worth doing well, eh? Keep up the good work and best wishes in your endeavor.

When you graduate, I'll be your first customer. Once I got over the whole homophobic thing,(no small task) I learned to love 'em.
