Also sometimes I feel like caning a rapist. And people who commit domestic violence too.

I'm not all that horrified by the caning. I'm perfectly comfortable with the death penalty, so if I'm okay with a society killing folks for crimes I suppose I shouldn't get all that huffy about beating them with a cane.

So I'm interested in why it bothers people. I'm bothered by the low severity of the crime, and I'm bothered by adultery or any other consensual sexual act being criminalized at all.

Which makes me curious exactly what part crosses other peoples' lines. You're pro death penalty, and (like me) would probably thump on a friend who was shagging your wife. So it ain't the violence.
