i fight in mt and never knew there was a major deal of grapplin up close.......maybe its cuz im just a beginner
 
Assuming you mean Muay Thai, Yep. A great deal of clinching. There is a respect among professional fighters in Thailand that if you don't elbow they wont. Some however do and the clinch melay begins. Thaiboxing is for it's elbows and knees and the variety of them. The clinch is a cruial range. For street art practice, the clinch is also great as so much can happen here. Cool....keep it up. Also check out some Thai tapes. Your school should have some.
