This is just ridiculous!

________________

Taken from The Times :

"Aaron Cook, the European champion from Dorset who left the British taekwondo system last year, has found that the organisation he turned his back on has attempted to block his defection to the Isle of Man. Cook had intended to compete at the German Open in Hamburg this weekend.

However, he was informed in January that the British federation had alerted the German organisers to articles in the international rulebook that prevented him from doing so. The organisers in Hamburg said that he was therefore ineligible to compete.

In the fallout from the dispute, the British federation suggested to the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), the sport’s global body, that one solution would be if the WTF stripped the Isle of Man Taekwondo Association (IOMTA) of its official status.

However, the WTF concluded on Tuesday that Cook is eligible to compete for the Isle of Man. He will now compete next week in the Dutch Open."

Politics like that ruin Taekwondo's reputation.

I guess British Taekwondo is afraid of Cook still being successful on an internatonal level and then claiming his place in Team GB for the 2016 Olympic Games. While the Isle of Man is a direct member of the ETU/WTF, they're not a member of the IOC and Isle Of Man athletes can participate in the Olympics as part of Team GB.

[h=2]WHAT IS THE BRITISH OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION?[/h]The British Olympic Association (BOA) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The BOA is responsible for the participation in the Olympic Games of athletes from GB and NI, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and UK Overseas Territories which do not have their own National Olympic Committee.

I think he can still compete as member of the Isle of Man national team in World championship- and European championship games.

Yeah, indeed. That's what I'm saying, imagine him becoming European and/or world champion and being #1 in WTF's word ranking on his way to the Olympics 2016. If he's more successful than any British player the reputation of Team GB would get even worse if they'd deny him again. So they try to stop him right now in order to avoid problems when it comes to the Olympic Qualification and the Olympic Games.

If he really wants to get under their skin, he just needs to compete for australia :) The rivalry between Australia and England would ensure some fireworks.

For the uninitiated, what is the beef between Aaron Cook and the British team?

I was only commenting on "What's the beef", not on the quality of the beef. :)
