Well there was so manybrackets that had only 1-3 people, some fighters was bowing out because they just did not see any sense in fighting since they qualified for Nationals. I must admit there is a side of me that is depressed what the USAT is doing to the competitors and yes it reminds me of what happened when the USTU went down the tank.

Sad part is, only the best are supposed to qualify. Well its more like, who ever shows up, will qualify.

It has never been the best for the last eight years, it has been who is there. Some division has a elite fighter with well you know the rec. type of fighter it is sad and depressing at the same time.

Wow! that was a small event. Just looked at the numbers from the registration site and for Dallas the numbers are way down.

Senior Sparring Females - 28
Junior Sparring Females - 97

Senior Sparring Males - 49
Junior Sparring Males - 288

Like I said people are getting tired of the USAT, what can they do to fix it and what they will do is to different things.

I know when they have the state and regional close together (not this case, 2mos apart), people dont do both. why should they? Experience! Too many people I have spoken with are all too concerned about "qualifying" and not the experience. People are actually happy to go to regionals or a state and qualify without fighting. to me, that is the STUPID-EST thing I have ever heard.

I understand that these events are expensive, but I think people should be more concerned with having MORE good competition, than just "qualifying".

Yep. You are correct. That is why we did both. Even though we all qualified at the States we still did qualifiers for the experience. You can never have enough experience.

Placing at regional qualifiers will, theoretically, give you a higher seeding than placing at states as well, which is what some are interested in as well.

OK, I am looking at the excel spreadsheet with the Saturday results. I am interested specifically in the 14-17 Female Welter.

How the heck am I supposed to tell from these results who finished in what place in any of the 14-17 year old black belt fights?

What kind of results are these? Typical USAT incompetence. Why even bother posting this crap?

I remembered back in the 80s and early 90s, I was the only fighter showed up at State tournament in my division which was Female, Senior, Fly or Bantam. It is still the same now.

I noticed that Texas is greatly behind CA on Sport Poomsae. When you have Jr. athletes scored at 4.23 and 5.99 qualified, and both are from TX, then you know TX needs to catch up.

A ref said that even the worse Sport Poomsae in CA can out scored TX Junior and Cadets. Sad indeed...*shaking head*

Yes Texas is behind, the main problem is no support from the State level with all schools. See California atleast trys and educate there members.

While I wont dispute this statement, one thing to add is also, california is using different set of poomse judges whose level of training might also be different. At our regionals, it was "local certfied" poomse judges. Not a traveling group with the same criteria going to each event.

So that being said... scoring will very also.

California was well ahead of USAT on this. Consider they have Randy Chambliss, Misha Thackery, Jack Amsell and others who looked ahead and started long before USAT even considered a program.
