Yeah, I'm on Avalox and prednisone now for my cold. Get well, Terry - all the way.

Hi to everyone from Sicky The Second.

Prednisone? That's pretty serious stuff. My wife complained I was really "bitchy" when I was on that a couple of years ago. Had pneumonia.

but... there were comments on that thread that suggested that the reason for people posting to it was to bump up their post count.

I think that's clear. I don't think posts here should be counted. I argued against this kind of thing when I was on the staff way back when. In fact, I didn't post much in here for some while for that reason. The site now has such a chat-focus that it seems pointless to protest. (That isn't a criticism--a community has formed, and that's a good thing.) I do think there's a fair amount of post-count-upping going on, and I think that people posting to post, or to garner more reputation, is unfortunate. But, there was a chat room here for a while, and as mentioned it serves a community-building purpose that is quite valuable, as with studies that show that employees who go out to lunch/dinner/bars together outside of work tend to do better at work. I think if these posts didn't count you'd see rather fewer of them...but is that for better, or for worse?

Of course, as the #1 poster here (about to be surpassed by Bob Hubbard), perhaps I'm biased!

True, just a couple of days ago Brian told me congrats on getting 2,000 post in this thread alone...I was totally unaware of that fact..

Seriously, how do you tell the number of posts a person has within a given thread? Wheer do you look for that?

Ya know arni, as the person who's posted the most on this thread, I'd be just as happy if they didn't count. It is a great thread to chat and get to know everyone though.

I agree weather they count or not I would ve posting here we have some great converstation and you really get to know people here

Whether it was meant to be or not, this is the place I go to catch up with people; it's where I really get to know people outside their opinions on various MAs - and in that sense, it's the most important thread on the board, the place where we all come together as people.

That's a good point. The site has gradually shifted from a place limited to martial arts technical talk to a community of martial artists (as Inernet groups alwasy do).

But really ....

Isn't the person with the highest post count really seen as the person with lots to *say*? And that could be interpreted as a good thing or a bad thing. Just like the person with the most reputation could really be seen as the person with the most popular things to *say*. Which could also be interpreted as a good or bad thing.

How about this, Math Master? That the numbers don't always mean what we think they mean? When threads get moved, it alters post count. And why is it really that important to have a high post count anyway? Or lotsa rep? It's not.

I think the point *is* what you wrote about community. If I wanna argue with someone about martial arts I don't need to travel very far. In fact, I could walk right across the street. If I want to say something I think is important regarding self-defense, I'll likely say it at a self-defense seminar. What do we need to be here for anyway?

To build community and comradrie ... that, or argue numbers.

Have pity on us, Oh Great Arnisador ... not all of us have "bump"ed our way to greatness. :lol2:
