Coming from the kempo side, do you find the Kung fu movements wasteful, if used for real? Or just too over the top? I guess "flowery" would be a good word for it.

Not at all, not the king fu that I'm studying anyway, Tiger Claw, very direct, powerful movements. Every strike is meant to end the confrontation.
