Its been a good run I guess. But in this world, if you cant spell a few things correctly, such as Sensei or Wado, or your not sure on the history of martial art. If you dont know how to become better as a martial artist, and no veterans are willing to help you, just bomb you with insults and think your a fraud....

Than I dont want to be part of your little world, I came to this forum requesting information on what is 'right'.

So thats it, im done on this forum, and who knows, mabey even martial art. Mabey the next time an ameture (we're not all pro's at this stuff, not even you, yes *YOU*) asks for advice you should give it to him, not stick him with questions he cannot answer.

So long cruel world.

Don't quit. There are other people here on this board that can and will give useful comments. Don't just stop because of a few. Be patient and try sticking it out longer with us.

As to naming of dojos, people can name their dojo however they want, even if the spelling may be different.

In my area, there is a place called Wahsatch. The correct spelling (and the name of the region around here) is actually Wasatch. Now whether the owner of the place intentionally spelled it differently, or it just happened that way as a misspelling, it doesn't matter.

If the dojo is spelled Waduu, that's the owner's perogative and he might have a reason for spelling it that way.

If you quit, you'll prove everything they say. A true martial artist doesn't quit. You have what alot that start in MA don't have, passion... or you wouldn't be in here trying to learn. That is what you want isn't it? Well, this is a good place for that. Now you know the lay of the land as they say.
And you are still welcome.. TW

Does reciting the history of martial arts make you a good martial artist? NO.
Does spelling properly make you a good martial artist? NO

Who cares what other people think of you. I know it's hard but you just have to say, "Screw them I know what's good for me, not them. If they don't like what I am doing, too bad."

I don't know that much history about the martial arts but I consider myself a good martial artist. These people that trained in some form of Karate(not that it matters what they trained in) thought my art sucked and I didn't know crap because I train out of a garage. Tell ya what I am a WAY better person then they are and I could beat the crap out of them if it came down to it(were talking seconds here).

Just forget about who said what and go meditate and realize that you set the bar for your martial art not anyone else.

Don’t even go there!…….you claimed you were such and such rank in “Shotokan” and “Wadu”….you said your teacher was Tsuruoka Masami, you said he was the “founder of Shotokan”….I and others showed you he was not, in fact we showed you that Tsuruoka was actually a Chinto Ryu teacher. All your questions were answered with a fairly respectful tone.

Only when you claimed that you went on a grand butt kicking tour of various dojo from coast to coast and couldn’t find anyone that could beat you in sparring and how they all sucked so bad did people image of you go south. It was then that they realized you were full of bull.

Nobody ever said you have to know everything about the history of your style, but flags pop up when someone says they trained in art for 9 years but can’t even tell you basic information on it, plus you didn’t even know the style your so called teacher was teaching…you claimed your “teacher” was Tsuruoka Masami who doesn’t even teach shotokan! Not to mention saying nobody in all those dojo could beat you sparring.

You need to grow up, come clean and tell the truth, and stop your whining.

People have a lot more respect for someone who is honest than someone who tries to “snowjob” them. Telling your teenage buddies how you kicked everyone’s *** might impress them but an adult can see through it as pure BS.

So, I have studied for 9 years, and I am only at brown stripe in shotokan, and apprentice black in Wadu... However

When sparring, I find that I have yet to be 'beaten', what ever that means... I know its a small portion of being a black belt. But even still I have taken out contless McMasters from many McDojos. Moving across the country I took time to stop in to random clubs for the night and just spar and experiance other styles....

I find that I can teach very well. Most people now only show you how to move, and rarely explain and justify why you do it. Its hard to explain, but most sensai I talk to, really... well they suck. I am having a hard time not being cocky about my skills...

Also, both my shotokan and wadu sensai cannot allow me to accept black belt till im 18. Ive gone to many clubs and they have offered me black upon the FIRST night... I hate McDojos...

I am only apprentice black, and its hard to be held back like this. Anyone else feel the same?

I was called an idiot for one of my post early on, so be it one man opion does not end my MA career 42 years later I'am still here doing what I love teaching my Art. Some poeple can be cruel and some can never see your point of view does that mean your not able to contribute H*** no hang in there and work through your bad times and the good times will come..

If a few comments on a message board in response to some overhyped comments truely make someone with 9 years invested quit, i qould hate to see what would happen if we met on the mat sparring, and I hit you with my infamous "Wedgie" takedown.

You know what man, (words of anger toward you). I studied Shotokan in Kingston ontario, I learned from George Day, who is a 2nd dan black belt. I have the certificates to prove that I earned the belts for it. Ocassionaly, Sensei Tsurouka came down and taught a few of us SHOTOKAN, thats right, SHOTOKAN. TSUROUKA TAUGHT ME SHOTOKAN. What the hell is so hard to understand that, your saying that NEVER in his life he wasnt allowed to teach it?

After reading some different views of people here, I understand myself a bit better. I also realize that YOU are an evil person, and I dont consider you to be a true martial artist. I KNOW my story is blury, thats why I came here, to figure what my story meant. All you have done to me is make me feel unwelcome.

If you had said to me, you dont know your place because your past was a bit wonkey, I wouldnt tell you that your an idiot. I would have accepted that and givin you some advice, the martial artist thing to do. Some people TRY to live hontestly, but I guess thats not good enough for you.

Ill show you all my freakin name, stick around, soon youll see

Don't ask for feedback on something you don't want honest feedback on. You're the one who came skulking in threatening to quit MA, boo hoo, but were such a good fighter no one could beat you, rah rah, now we're a bunch of jerks rubbing crap in????

My dad would say, "Don't let the door hit you in the **** on the way out."

But I'm going to say .... well, see ya.

Well young man, you are just a product of bad luck..... there are plenty of great studios and teachers out there that DO instruct and explain the how's and why's of their systems to all their students. You have just not been out there long enough me thinks. :)

Well, I have to agree with you on this one!! Be careful..... an adjustment could be just around the corner....

Many studios and associations have age or maturity requirements for Black Belts, that is a very individual and debatable issue (always has been).

You should feel honored about others offers of promotions since they obviously were impressed with your skills...... but that does not mean you need to accept .... you do have your own personal requirements and integrity to deal with {getting rank in some system without review is never good in my opinion}.

I am NOT fond of McDojo's either!!

Your an apprentice for a reason, and your posts confirm that.

This reminds me of something I read on another site:

How to Write your Swan Song
So, there you are, a middle rank poster who’s been there, done that, are generally running out of new material and who feels that they’re losing out to the newer, more hungry posters on the site - what to do? Yes, there’s always that old fashioned “I’m leaving y’all” post to bring some zing back into your posting. Now a decent swan song relies on at least a minimal amount of preparation, so some of the following suggestions may be useful

1) Start a flame war with a member of staff and/or respected poster. A goodie this one, not only does it segue nicely into point (2) but also raises your profile on the site and introduces you to those who have forgotten your existence.
2) Change from wordy yet useful posts to rants and swearing, all the while decrying standards today. It helps at this juncture if you can point out prior selfless acts in previous posts where you manfully/womenfully didn’t join in the general swearfest.
3) Really just a specialised form of (2), start to lace all your posts with a feeling of ennui, make pointless references to threads that made no sense at the time and bringing back the names of the hallowed dead (old posters). Again, this serves the dual purpose of letting people know that you were “one of the first” while also providing you with the ability to rehash your own words without starting a new thread.
4) Conspiracy theories. This works best with (1) and better yet relies on no definitive proof whatsoever. Start to hint that either
a) you were the victim of a previous conspiracy and have only now been able to post following therapy to remove the scars
b) better still, refer to a mysterious “Mister X” who was the true King Arthur of the site, cruelly brought low by jealous jackals but who will return and bring the site back to it’s glorious golden age again.

So, you’ve laid the groundwork, the site is humming and your threads are picking up more viewers than the Paris Hilton p0rn shoot, it’s time for the next step, the song itself.

Now at this point, the less experienced Site-suicider may be tempted to not write the swan song at all. After all, they’re back on form and cooking with gas. Everyone is taking notice of them and their words are reaching all the way to cheap seats at the back. Don’t do this, as every gentlemen (and lady knows), once you’ve put out, you must follow through or become just another joke in the gutter of sardonic discourse. It’s time to give your public what it wants and expects - your farewell speech. The nice thing is, you can do this time and time again, just wait a year or two, rejoin then do it all over again. So, on to the speech itself!

You really only have a few basic speech options, so your best bet is to combine a few into a stunning ode to yourself.

1) The classic “I hate you all and I hope you’re all going to die painfully” – while very pleasing to write, it does have the downside of seeming immature
2) “In sorrow I go” - a good one for the older poster, allows you to project a tattered dignity overcome by the hordes of wannabes.
3) “Forced out” – the final completion to the conspiracy theory, you’re not leaving, you’ve been forced to leave – makes a good opening for the sequel “Return of the old poster from beneath the bottom of the net”
4) “With Contempt” – a tricky one to come back from, you’re leaving due to the low standards of all the other members who have reduced your words of wisdom to the level of chewing gum on the bottom of the seat on the bus. Only experienced suiciders/minor celebs should try this one
5) “A better offer” – a dual leaving speech, you’re leaving to a better place where the original intents of the site are better served. You coincidentally are normally a member of staff/bum chum at the other site, but that’s not important. What is important is that this one can be a “semi-left” speech and a decent advertisement for your new site – give it a go today.

Hopefully this will be of some help to the disgruntled posters of today, but if not, all this weary reader can say is “skrew off the lot of you and I hope you all drown in your own bile”.
