In your video there, you could throw a horizontal knee to his stomach first, then swing it past the leg and finish your o'soto gari. (foot never touches ground here, in this combo) ...
Agree that you can use striking to set up an opportunity for throwing. It will make sense if striking is also part of your throwing.

For example, a head lock can be a hay-maker that you strike with your forearm on the side of your opponent's head. When you get a head lock on your opponent, you may have already knocked him half way out. This is the beauty of the integration of the striking art and the wrestling art.

Back in 1930, a Chinese wrestler challenged a Judo master in Beijing, China. The match lasted for only 3 seconds. The wrestler used his right knee to strike on the judo guy's inside upper leading leg. When the Judo guy stepped back his leading leg, without dropping the striking leg, the wrestler hooked the judo guy's back standing leg and took him down. That match made the Judo guy very mad. In Judo rule set, the grip fight and clinch had not even started yet but the match was already over.

What should takedown defense include? Your thought?
It doesn't matter if they take the fight to the ground if your groundwork is better. BJJ is a good place for groundwork, but if you want to avoid getting onto the ground in the first place, just lash the love out when you get grappled. Knees, headbutts, bites... whatveer it take to get the grappler want to stop his close range attack.

Are you saying that BJJ guys don't train (or don't care about) take down defense?

Less care. There are all these weird trade offs in nhb fighting.

If I can beat you off my back it changes the order of priorities for everything else.

The only sure takedown defense is to become a good grappler. Otherwise you're pitting your weakness against the other person's strength.

It's similar to people thinking there's a reliable unarmed knife defence against a good knife fighter. There isn't one, except for running away. The defense against wrestling is wrestling. Or a baseball bat.
