The Alligator King

Music and Lyrics by Donald Hadley/William Luckey
(c)1971 Sesame Street, Inc. (ASCAP)

One two three four five six seven!
Said the Alligator King to his seven sons,
"I'm feelin' mighty down.
Whichever of you can cheer me up
Will get to wear my crown."

His first son brought seven oyster pearls
From the bottom of the China Sea.

The second gave him seven statues of girls
With clocks where their stomachs should be.

The third son gave him seven rubies
From the sheikdom Down There Beneath.
The King thought the rubies were cherries,
And he broke off seven of his teeth.

The fourth son tried to cheer him up
With seven lemon drops.
The King said, "I'm sorry son,
Since that ruby episode, I just haven't got the chops."

The fifth son brought the King perfume
In seven fancy silver jars;
The King took a whiff, and he broke out in spots
'Cause it smelled like cheap cigars.

The sixth son gave him seven diamond rings
To wear upon his toes.
The King snagged his foot on the royal red rug
And crumpled up his nose.

The seventh son of the Alligator King
Was a thoughtful little whelp.
He said, "Daddy, appears to me
That you could use a little help."

Said the Alligator King to his seventh son,
"My son, you win the crown.
You didn't bring me diamonds or rubies, but
You helped me up when I was down.
Take the crown; it's yours, my son.
I hope you don't mind the dents.
I got it on sale at a discount store-
Cost me all of seven cents!"
Seven!

Gotta love this one, from Sesame Street!!

I just got On an Island last month. My wife gave it to me for my birthday. Great stuff, by I haven't got they lyrics down yet, still too new for me.

The avatar is Leon, from Bladerunner. Back in the early 1980s, with Harrison Ford as a bounty hunter who hunts down wayward, homicidal androids sometime in the not-too-distant future. It's based on the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick. I actually liked the movie quite a lot better.
Hey Flying Crane :) that's such a cool b/day pressie, your good lady must like you CHILLED, ha! Ok, so the lyrics are maybe no great shakes compared to what went before but I'm just mad for this little LP and it's been slagged everywhere but I don't care, the naysayers are the old-school Floyd guys that can't appreciate CHANGE maybe. Glad you're liking it!!

And the crazy av, yeah I'm hearing Bladerunner which just sort of passed me by somehow, and I'm really partial to sci-fi I dunno maybe too highbrow fer the likes of me?? But I KNOW that guy in your av from somewhere else, I checked him out on IMDB but I can't place him, damn, that's gonna annoy me now, ha!

Anyway, sincere thanks for sharing some Floyd - always a welcome sound at Jenna's house :) And would I be breaking protocol if I asked if you've got a name Flying Crane?? :)

All bananas playing in the bright warm sun,
Flipping like a pancake, popping like a cork,
Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and, Snork

Making a whole mess of fun, Making a whole mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone

I only found out that Gilmour recorded the new disk because I had read a newspaper article reviewing the concert that he played THE NIGHT BEFORE! in Oakland, California, right across the bay from where I live in San Francisco. I was really bummed that I missed it, and didn't even know about it!

But I did see Floyd play in 1988, on the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. I was in high school at the time, and just getting acquainted with Floyd, and I was just blown away. I've been a heavy Floyd fan ever since.

Cheers!

Yeah, it's a pretty cool place. I've been here since 1994, and I've been happy ever since. Lots and lots of martial arts!

It's kind of amazing how we manage to hide our bridge almost every day!

A man that I Knew
He approached me for a match
I could tell right away
He was not ordinary
I said where we going
He said we be back by the fourth
I said thats the best news i ever heard

I have just discovered "Fort Minor", Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park's band.

I am totally loving it.

From "Believe Me"

I guess, that this is where we've come to,
If you don't want to, then you don't have to, believe me
But I, wont be there when you go down,
Just so you know now, you're on your own now, believe me

and, linkin park, breaking the habit

Memories consume, like opening the wounds
I'm picking me apart again
you all assume I'm safe here in my room,
unless I try and start again

I don't want to be the one the battles always choose
'cuz inside I realize, that I'm the one confused.
I don't know what's worth fighting for, or why I have to scream,
I don't know why I instigate, and say what I don't mean.
I don't know how I got this way,
I know it's not all right, so I'm breaking the habit,
I'm breaking the habit,
tonight.

Clutching my cure,
I tightly lock the door,
I try to catch my breath again.
I hurt much more, than any time before, I have no options left again...

Edit: also my signature.
I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed
I will never be anything 'til I break away from me
I will break away, I'll find myself today

Hey Sean, :) Ya know this has gotta be one of those songs I just can't get my head round - maybe with a few space cakes it might make sense but until then, uh? I'd be interested to know what it means to you? Isis, right? I married Isis on the fifth day of May but I could not hold on to her very long. Ok that's fine but after that, I'm um... lost! :)

Interested to know what that all means if you know. And I think it's funny that I might listen to a song and sing along and never actually know what the h3ll I'm singing, LOL :D Worst of all for this Procul Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale", I mean why are vestal virgins heading for the coast and what are vestal virgins anyway or shouldn't I ask?? LOL :)

btw, have you REALLY got the touch of death? And what is the touch of death anyway?

Hey Sam :) I gotta hand it to ya, you got taste there babes :) :) I got to see Linkin supporting Metallica across in Dublin last year and man, they ROCKED, was a job deciding who was supporting who!! Ok, so I'm feeling what you've put down and I'm gonna give ya some P.O.D. and you've prolly got them already and if so, give em a spin up for me on your machine and if not I promise you'll like a lot! This is "Alive"

Everyday is a new day
I'm thankful for every breath I take
I won't take you for granted
So I learn from my mistakes
It's beyond my control sometimes it's best to let go
Whatever happens in this lifetime
So I trust in love
You have given me oeace of mind

I, I feel so alive
For the very first time
I can't deny you
I feel so alive
I, I feel so alive
For the very first time
And I think I can fly

Sunshine upon my face
A new song for me to sing
Tell the world how I feel inside
Even though it might cost me everything
Now that I know this so beyond, I can't hold this
I can never turn my back away
Now that I've seen you
I can NEVER look away

I, I feel so alive
For the very first time
I can't deny you
I feel so alive
I, I feel so alive
For the very first time
And I think I can fly

Hey Jim - sunny side up today?? :D

Ya know, I'm digging this for real!! Sanctified eh? Well I can't argue at all with that at all though there's something about Pretty Hate - that sort of creepy fingernails on blackboard sort of feel that I think suits it well. And With Teeth I liked a LOT - very DRIVING. And what else... Minstry? Oh so ya like to get a bit rough too and lemme see, Genesis and Queen, yep, I'm getting the flava here. Ok, something's coming. Let me dial my dial and let's just see here. Well, you might not have heard them and actually from a while back - a GOOD while back I think but if you can find it, I GUARANTEE you will LIKE. I don't even think they're around anymore - one LP only but they are the stunning Sunna and this is from "Power Struggle"

I will survive cause I want more
And I will create a bigger war
And I will rule over and give you hell
And then you will do as I command
Cause I will be here when you are gone
Yeah I'll still be here when you are gone
I'll fill you with fear of the holy son
I want all that I am

Cause I was made to fly
Yeah, I was made to fly
You were made to die
But I was made to fly

*tired fingers*

Jim, if you can, I'd love you to go download that one. It's a rarity and a gem I promise :) :)

I liked the flies...
a lot.

with_teeth was a great album; though, I liked the grandeur/depth of Spiral more. It was scary, in places... Big Man With A Gun, for example or Eraser.

your mold goes back on after halloween
you go to work today
you'll go to work tomorrow
shitfaced tonight you'll brag about it for months
remember what i did
remember what i was
back on halloween
but what's in between?

That's for when I'm feeling really creepy.

In a more day-to-day sense, though, I have to submit:
Don't believe in miracles,
I do believe in love.
Don't advise you to stick to rules,
There ain't no need to push and shove
Or in the end you'll reflect the pool
Reaching for the sky above

P.O.D. is just pure awesome! I like youth of the nation, overplayed, but wonderful.

hmmm.

How about:

I'm a barbie girl, in a barbie world....

(just kidding)

for real though: (some people might consider this graphic. I don't think its too bad, but I put it in white... highlight to read. The content matter is about self mutilation.)

The Used
small, simple safe price
rise the wake and carry me with all of my regrets
this is not a small cut that scabs and dries and flakes and heals
and I am not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to bleed
and ****
and fight
I want the pain of payment!
what's left but a section of pygmy-sized cuts
much like a slew of a thousand unwanted ****s?
Would you be my little cut?
Would you be my thousand ****s?
And make mark, leaving space for the guilt to be liquid
to fill, and spill,
over and under my thoughts
My sad, sorry, slefish cry out to the cutter;
I'm cutting, trying to picture your black, broken heart.
Love is not like anything! Especially a ****ing knife!

This song is about growing old... sometimes it happens too fast and you just can't seem to catch up.
------------------

Time ~ Pink Floyd from "Dark Side Of The Moon."

Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long
There is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No-one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

(guitar... no, AWESOME guitar solo)

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking
Racing around, to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plan that even come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time has gone, the song is over
Thought I'd something more to say...

(Breathe Reprise)

Home, home again
I'd like to be here, when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away, across the fields
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the silently spoken magic spells.

(The Great Gig In The Sky)
And I'm not frightened of dying, anytime will do.
I don't mind, why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you gotta go sometime.

If you can hear this whispering, you are dying

I never said I was frightened of dying .....

Instrumental -- including the (magnificent) vocalization of Claire Torre

Note: Throughout this (fine) album, in between songs, there are clips of interviews conducted on the street by the band members one notably of Paul McCartney as he was exiting the building (Apple Studios BTW). Between the blend of Breathe Reprise and Great Gig In The Sky these words could be heard though faintly. Pink Floyd is more renown for being a more "head-phone" type listening muisic than "open-air". The identity of the various speakers is not revealed. But David Gilmore did mention McCartney's name as one of the interviewees. Oh yes, the album was produced by none other than Alan Parsons. :wink1:

This song just captivates me. ;)

Sweetest Perfection (Depeche Mode)

The sweetest perfection
To call my own
The slightest correction
Couldn't finely hone
The sweetest infection
Of body and mind
Sweetest injection
Of any kind

I stop and I stare too much
Afraid that I care too much
And I hardly dare to touch
For fear that the spell may be broken

When I need a drug in me
And it brings out the thug in me
Feel something tugging me
Then I want the real thing not tokens

The sweetest perfection...

Things you'd expect to be
Having effect on me
Pass undetectedly
But everyone knows what has got me

Takes me completely
Touches so sweetly
Reaches so deeply
I know that nothing can stop me

Sweetest perfection
An offer was made
An assorted collection
But I wouldn't trade

The sweetest perfection...

Takes me completely
Touches so sweetly
Reaches so deeply
Nothing can stop me

Ahh my friend Doc Holliday you are too kind :) And well, yeah I was born too late I think for so much of the greatest music like the Pistols back in the day but they can have a place in my earspace anydays. I'd never have taken Pretty Vacant that way, to me it was a badboy shouty song about well, pretentious and stupid folk as you explained but as a counterbalance to people getting up themselves, well I can see that too I think. Niiiice! OK then, I'm not gonna compete with Sid and Jonny for that - as the boy says - is impossible, ha! Nope I'm gonna throw one atcha that I'd bang on when I'm feeling a bit... er bad :D From the amazing Primal Scream when they went all mad with Evil Heat. This is Miss Lucifer, wow! If you've got it, spin it for me so you know what I'm talking bout!!!

Skinny girl, dressed in black
Leather boots, nazi hat
Tattoed panther, vampire cape
Sexy dancer, magdalene grace

Shake it baby
Shake it baby
Shake it baby
Shake it baby
SHAKE!

Panther girl, take me home
Hip to hip, bone to bone
Evil heat, all night long
Evil heat, all night long
Shake it baby (all night long)

Ooooh baby, how's that grab ya??

Jenna,
Thanks for this. Yeah I'm surely not averse to blasting a bit of Primal Scream at all and you gave me Miss Lucifer, well that's a cracking track. Best on Evil Heat I'd say, thanks! I'm enjoying this. Have you seen their video for Country Girl yet? I'm in love with that video though I can't decide whether to hug or shout at the girl in it! Actually I like the video *so* much I'm not even sure whether the song is any good! Hehe. Anyway, hope I'm permitted to share another lyric without fear of "hijacking" your thread. It's Forever and a Day by Ian Brown whom I'm sure you're familiar with. I have this on because lyrically it's dreamy and musically moreso and what's work for anyway if not for sitting amidst aimless thoughts! So if nothing else, this is a good tip for daydreaming, hehe.

What you gonna do when you just found forever? Where you gonna get to when you cant get it together?
Forever and a day

A fly gets caught upon a spiders web. The snake still has another skin to shed.
Forever and a day

Is it all a dream or have you just found forever? Get it all together, get like birds of a feather.
Forever and a day

The truth be told, you're more than stones and rings of gold. You can't be bought or sold
What ya gonna do when you just found forever? Where you gonna get to when you get it together ?
Each and every day

Forever and a day

Respects!

I discovered this song by U2 (not a fan, which is why I didn't find it sooner) right around the time I left my last church. That in itself is a long sordid saga for another post, though I have documented my time in that church in other fora...

Walk On
by U2

And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage that you can bring
Love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind...

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Oh, oh
Walk on, walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No, they can't even feel it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been
A place that has to be believed, to be seen
You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly, for freedom

Oh, oh
Walk on, walk on
What you got, they can't deny it
Can't sell it, or buy it
Walk on, walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
And your heart, it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on...
Walk on...

Home...
Hard to know what it is, if you never had one
Home...
I can't say where it is, but I know I'm going
Home...
That's where the hurt is...

And I know it aches
And your heart, it breaks
And you can only take so much

Walk on...
(Hooo)

Leave it behind
You got to leave it behind
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you feel

All this you can leave behind

All that you reason, (it's only time)
(Love is a feeling on my mind)
All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress-up
All that you've seen
All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate

Hey Rob, that's fantastic, thanks :) :) Yeah, the prose reminds me of Neil Young or a coupla others you might not have heard. Very pretty poetry. I went on his site and couldn't listen damn RealPlayer are looking for credit cards now - what happened to FREE??

Glad you liked it! And thank you for the Neil Young Lyrics, he is a brilliant writer as well! Sorry you had no luck with finding the song on-line.. And yes the expiration of FREE is troubling on the Net.. *pout* Let me see what I can do about getting you a little sample of Mr. Stan Rogers for you to listen too.

And Rob what about that "adventurer's spirit" is it gone? Has that indomitable spirit in us all gone and flown after the $$$ I wonder?

Hehehehehhehe.. Still adventuring despite holding down a job! *grin* I am very blessed to have a job that allows me a certain latitude in my tasks and rewards me for exploring and discovering.. tends to feed my own little internal explorer.. But I still find time to jump on a plane and have an adventure.. *smile* I'll have to tell you about my trip to Austria sometime... *grin*

Have a great day!

Today, I revel in newfound love and the lyrics to this love are:

I need to feel your heartbeat (heartbeat)
So close, feels like mine
All mine
I need to feel your heartbeat (heartbeat)
So close it feels like mine
All mine...
I remember the feeling
My hands in your hair
Hands in your hair
I remember the feeling
Of the rhythm we made
The rhythm we made
I need to land sometime
Right next to you
Feel your heartbeat (heartbeat)
Right next to me.....
