ONE
===

remark: the song has an incredibly genius video clip (the one involving world war I)
Hey mister mantis :) Thanks for this and yeah I know Lars Ulrich is big on anti-piracy which kinda grates with me since they're like MEGA rich and hard to believe they're still so GREEDY too. Anyway, that's not to take away from the music!! Yep, this is a great lyric absolutely no doubt. Ok, well I just revisited this one here below 'cause I'm a bit angry and it's the fabulously aggravated "Chop Suey" from SoaD, I love it, go on mister mantis, I bet you've got this on your machine - let it rip for me will ya?? :D

Wake up, (Wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little make-up,
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up,
(Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable.

(You wanted to)
Grab a brush and put a little make-up,
(You wanted to)
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up,
(You wanted to)
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
(You wanted to)

I don't think you trust,
In my self-righteous suicide,
I cry when angels deserve to die.

...

Father into your hands,
I commend my spirit,
Father into your hands,
Why have you forsaken me,
In your eyes forsaken me,
In your thoughts forsaken me,
In your heart forsaken me, Oh!
Trust in my self-righteous suicide,
I cry when angels deserve to die,
In my self-righteous suicide,
I cry when angels deserve to die.

OK, another one from Harry Chapin: I Wanna Learn A Love Song. It ends well, and is happy in a sad sort of way. Kind of makes you step back and question how you are living your life. Do you value what you have? if not, you might lose it...

I Wanna Learn a Love Song
by Harry Chapin

She said, "I wanna learn a love song before you go away."
Hey Michael :) Man these are much too much I don't deserve it. But thank you for taking the time, I singled out a line above that in the context of the story in the song is a real swallow hard moment. I gotta check this guy if there's stuff available?? Ok, when I thought of that a dozen things came to mind (such is my current sorry state) but here's one from a while back you may know or may not but a great track nonetheless from Killing Joke, the sweeping "Love Like Blood" Hey Michael, do me a favour, will ya? Ya know I could really do with a gee up at the minute, got anything you put on when you feel like that, or maybe you never feel like that??? Would be appreciated...

We must play our lives like soldiers in the field
But life is short i'm running faster all the time
Strength and beauty destined to decay
So cut the rose in full bloom

'til the fearless come and the act is done
A love like blood, a love like blood

Everyday through all frustration and despair
Love and hate fight with burning hearts
'til legends live and man is god again
(and self-preservation rules the day no more)

We must dream of promised lands and fields
That never fade in season
As we move towards no end we learn to die
Red tears are shed on grey

I'm just a simple girl
In a high tech, digital world
I really try to understand
All the powers that rule this land
They say Miss J's big butt is boss
Kate Moss can't find a job
In a world of post modern fad
What was good, now is bad

It's not hard to understand
Just follow this simple plan

Follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
Is easy to find
Just follow your heart baby

You look at me
but you're not quite sure
Am I it, or could you get more?
You learn cool from magazines
You learn love from Charlie Sheen

If you want me let me know
I promise I won't say no

Follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
Is easy to find
Just follow your heart baby

You got something that you wantin' to sell
Sell your sin
Just cash in
You got something that you wantin' to tell
You'll love me
Wait and see

If you want me
Don't play games
I promise
It won't be in vain
Uh, uh, uh

Follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
Is easy to find
Just follow your heart baby

Just follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
Makes it easy to find
Just follow your heart baby

Follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
Is easy to find
Just follow your heart baby

If you want to check out Chapin, I suggest the disk Verities and Balderdash. Great stuff.

And now for something completely different: a little number from The Proclaimers, off the Shrek Motion Picture Soundtrack.

I'm On MY Way

Im on my way from misery to happiness today
Im on my way from misery to happiness today
Im on my way to what I want from this world
And years from now youll make it to the next world
And everything that you receive up yonder
Is what you gave to me the day I wandered

I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took the road that brought me to your home town
I took the bus to streets that I could walk down
I walked the streets to find the one Id looked for
I climbed the stair that led me to your front door

And now that I dont want for anthing
Id have al jolson sing Im sitting on top of the world

Ill do my best, Ill do my best to do the best I can
Ill do my best, Ill do my best to do the best I can
To keep my feet from jumping from the ground dear
To keep my heart from jumping through my mouth dear
To keep the past, the past and not the present
To try and learn when you teach me a lesson

And now that I dont want for anything
Id have al joison sing Im sitting on top of the world.

I dunno, Helena by The Misfits comes close:

If I cut off your arms and cut off you legs
would you still love me anyway?
If you're bound and gagged, draped and displayed
would you still love me anyway?
Why don't you love me anyway?

Cutting with a knife,
Blood is spilling everywhere
She will be my wife
Secondary spine,
Incisions must be accurate
I know just what to do
My hands are trembling i can't spare
To slip up with this knife

Her beauty so illogical
The beast come gliding in
Hideous chameleon
She's stripped down to her skin
Dance to the burning flame
Pleasure exhumes the pain
The night bursts into flame
Dance
Helena,
Dance
Woah

If I cut off your arms and I cut off your legs
would you still love me anyway?
There's a spot on the floor where your limbs used to be
And I close the door on my fantasies
Why don't you love me anyway?

Oooooh Jim that's all gothic and damp and shivery *shudders* What are you doing to me?? I'm a sensitive angel I can't be doing with all this creepiness ha!

Ok, here's one for you then. This is from Bjork when she was with the Sugarcubes, their first single I remember and you maybe need to hear the music for the full imbalanced off-key effect but the lyric is kinda weird and creepy and not nice and uncomfortable for me...

She lives in this house over there
Has her world outside it
Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth
She's five years old

Thread worms on a string
Keeps spiders in her pocket
Collects fly wings in a jar
Scrubs horse flies
And pinches them on a line
Ohhh...

She has one friend, he lives next door
They're listenening to the weather
He knows how many freckles she's got
She scratches his beard

She's painting huge books
And glues them together
They saw a big raven
It glided down the sky
She touched it
Ohh...

Today is a birthday
They're smoking cigars
He's got a chain of flowers
And sows a bird in her knickers
Ohhh...

They're smoking cigars
They lie in the bathtub
A chain of ... flowers

This song always cracks me up:

The Man With The Dogs
- Dead Kennedys -

I am no one
But I'm well known
For I am the Man with the Dogs

I stare at you shopping
Watch while you're walking
Two dogs run around your toes

You turn around
Two eyes break you down
"Now, who does that guy think he's starin' at?"

Stop in your tracks
You're being laughed at
You armored ego is nude

And I do and I do
Crack up 'cos I'm getting to you
I see you I see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too

Down to your church
I'm looking for victims
Spell of the Man with the Dogs

I'll haunt you
And follow you to work
That ghost is back again

Creep into you
I won't go away
You're taking yourself too seriously

I smile as you frown
And turn to walk away
Your habits for all to see

I see a shrew
I see you
And the rodent things you do
You see you I see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too

And I'm gonna crack your mask
Yeah and I'm gonna laugh
Open wide

Saw you again
You'll see me tomorrow
Curse of the Man with the Dogs

You may not like me
You won't forget me
Not safe even in Walgreen's

They've seen me
Ask your friends
'Oh I know him'
Seen but I'm never heard
By your lot

A stare
Is worth a thousand biting phrases
See how stupid you are?

I dare you I dare you
To erase my laser tattoo
You see you you see you
And you're pretty self-conscious too

And I'm gonna crack your mask
Yeah, and I'm gonna laugh
What's inside?
Is it pubic hair
Is it cobweb air
I bet you just don't care

Well I work for a software company and I do R&D, skunkworks stuff. I essentially try and make some of our products work with other prodects in ways no one has treid before to allow us to partner with them, or sell a joint offering or even add new functionality to our product. I get to be a geek without having to worry about being tidy with code and work in emergin technologies. But the BEST part.. Is then I get to go out and tell other developers about it. I love presenting (I know.. a little unusual for a Geek..) or as I like to call it...Evangalising! *grin*

And yes tell me bout Austria. I think Austria is one of the MOST beautiful countries I've ever been to and the folk are SO friendly and the houses with the flowers all along the ledges I wouldn't have believed it was really like that and you got on the glacier? I can't remember the name and the Krimml Falls?? Wow, what a fantastic place and of course you brought home some "Mozarts Balls" mmmmm chocolate, gimme gimme gimme, ha! And I remember a place called Achensee I think by a lake of the most phenomenal blue, wow. I'd love to hear what you got up to there, skiing maybe??? I would love to go live there but a little expensive, yes??

Austria is very expensive.. and I was there only a short while... But here is the story... I was headed to Barcelona for a week (for work...so sweet..) and my girlfriend was finishing up a month long tour of Europe with her band. We were trying to arrange it so that she could join me in Barcelona for a couple of days before heading back but we could not make the flights match up.. So on the spur of the moment I booked a flight from BArcelona to Munich and then drove from Munich to Austria to try and catch her very last show on the tour..without telling her I was coming.. I arrived got checked into my hotel and then headed for the club.. but it was closed! I checked back throughout the evening until about 10:30 but it was still closed. I headed to bed disappointed that my plan had failed.. But then the next day as I am checking my email in Munich before returning to Barcelona I find out she did play the club! There had been a power failure and they didn't open the doors until they got it back online at 11:00... Missed her by 1/2 an hour... *sigh*

I didn't tell her until we reunited a week later back here in the states... She was disappointed by not seeing me but impressed with the gesture.. We are definately planning on returning to th area in Austria for a romantic getaway to correct the missed opportunity! *grin*

But despite that I still had am amazing trip through Germany and Austria! Such BEAUTIFUL country and fantastic food and oh the Beer!

Ok.. wanna go back now...

Hey Sam :) :) Now that's more like it and that's what I could do with right now, and Jewel is so gorgeous and sounds so beautiful and serene so thank you for hitting the nail on the head for me!! I am busy dialing through what I got and I found this for you and it's prolly too old for you to maybe have on your player but if you can pull down Songs From the Big Chair by the generation x-ers Tears For Fears, well here's "I Believe" from that album and it's just lovely and means a lot to me...

I believe that when the hurting and the pain has gone
We will be strong, Oh yes we will be strong
And I believe that if I'm crying while I write these words
Is it absurd ? Or am I being real
I believe that if you knew just what these tears were for
They would just pour like every drop of rain
That's why I believe it is too late for anyone to believe

I believe that if you thought for a moment, took your time
You would not resign yourself, resign yourself to your fate
And I believe that if it's written in the stars, that's fine
I can't deny that I'm a Virgo too
I believe that if your bristling while you hear this song
I could be wrong or have I hit a nerve ?
That's why I believe it is too late for anyone to believe

I believe that maybe somewhere in the darkness
In the nighttime, In the storm
In the casino
Casino spanish eyes
And I believe, no I can't believe that every time you hear a new born scream
You just can't see the shaping of a life
The shaping of a life

Hey Michael :) Ahh the Proclaimers where the h3ll are they now?? Now that's REAL honest to goodness songwriting talent like Billy Bragg I remember. But this is great and hits the spot so thank you again! And I am trying to pull down Verities... but this line I'm on is um... like something from the stone age and I am out on the balcony trying to get a signal from somebody else but I'll let you know what I think of it - looking forward to hearing! Though I'm not sure I can match ya on this I'm in a rubbish mood and so I was looking through my little tv soundtracks section for Sesame Street, ha! :D because that reminds me of happy kiddie days and oops I've stumbled onto this instead. Oh well a great lyric and a fantastic TV programme MASH, yes??? Or maybe you were never a fan...

The game of life is hard to play
I'm going to lose it anyway
the losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say

That suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

Hey Rob :) Your job doesn't sound at all like the usual code-monkey stuff as I know of it. I'm impressed - and I'm not usually impressed with computer stuff to which the corners and edges of this here laptop will testify, ha! *temper, temper*

And your g/f's a muso too, that's SO cool. And yeah you get yourself on back out to Austria and if you get there take a trip out to Achensee with your good lady friend I promise your breath will be taken away by the sapphire blueness of that lake. And take a trip on a yacht and let the wind blow you both wherever and maybe bring me back a box of Mozarts Balls, ahem, LOL. Good luck yourself - you sound like you deserve it :)

Hey Jenna, one more before I wrap it up for the weekend and get out of my office.

A little favorite of mine, from our old friends with Led Zeppelin.

Braun Y-aur Stomp.

Ah caught you smiling at me, That's the way it should be,
Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine.

Ah all the good times we had, I sang love songs so glad
Always smiling, never sad, so fine.

*As we walk down the country lanes, I'll be singing a song,
Hear me calling your name.
Hear the wind within the trees, Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

Well if the sun shines so bright, Or on our way it's darkest night
The road we choose is always right, so fine.

Ah can your love be so strong When so many loves go wrong
Will our love go on and on...

* Chorus

My, my la de la come on now it ain't too far,
Tell your friends all around the world,
Ain't no companion like a blue eyed merle.
Come on now well let me tell you,
What you're missing, missing, 'round them brick walls.

So of one thing I am sure, It's a friendship so pure,
Angels singing all around my door, so fine.
Yeah, ain't but one thing to do Spend my natural life with you,
You're the finest dog I knew, so fine.

When you're old and your eyes are dim, There ain't no old Shep gonna happen again,
We'll still go walking down country lanes, I'll sing the same old songs,
Hear me call your name.

Thanks for all the tunes today. It's been tons of fun! I'll be back with more later.

Hey Jim :) ya know the Dead Kennedys are something of an acquired taste for me, ok I can go with "Holiday in Cambodia" and maybe overlook the what can I say... racially prejudiced undertones but yeah there's no denying the irreverance of it all and I think they were more punk than many proclaiming themselves such. Well, post punk favourites of mine are the Stranglers and I'm finding this goes well at the minute... "Strange Little Girl"

one day you see a strange little girl look at you
one day you see a strange little girl feeling blue

she'd run to the town one day
leaving home and the country fair
just beware
when you're there
strange little girl

she didn't know how to live in a town that was rough
it didn't take long before she knew she had enough
walking home in her wrapped up world
she survived but she's feeling old
and she found all things cold

strange little girl
where are you going?
strange little girl
where are you going?
do you know where you could be going?

walking home in her wrapped up world
she survived but she's feeling old
cuz she found all things cold

strange little girl
where are you going?
do you know where you could be going?

Thank You for the recommendations! My girlfriend is the lead singer of an amazing band. Check them out here: www.superhoney.com She is also a cellist and she spent some time in Saltzburg on a previous tour and did the tour or Mozart's house. So many increible things to see. I keep trying to convince her that we need to do the Physicists Tour of Germany and Austria and hit all the big niversities.. she seems less thrilled about that.. *lol*

Ok.. to return the favor of the travel recommendations.. There is a place outside of Banff National Park on the WEst Coast of my homeland, Canada called Lake Luise. It is the runoff from a glacier that picks up granite dust as it trickes down the mountain. The water glows an emerald green.. It is unbelievably gorgeous! Here is a link:

http://www.brewster.ca/files/Images/Scenic/LakeLouise%20summ%20HR.jpg

Put this on your list of places to visit at all costs! *smile*

Cheers! (since you are in London now)

"Take a look to the sky just before you die
It's the last time you will."
Hey mister Flatlander :) You're not a military man are ya?? I always took this here for an army song so maybe that's why it's meaningful for you? Or maybe that's just my misinterpretation of what the song's about. Good one anyway and thanks for sharing!!

Well, not an army song this but I love this lyric it reminds me of so many things all at once and anyway it's The Beatles very clever and intricate "A Day In The Life"

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look...
Having read the book

Hehehe.. Not the usual geek no... I like to consider myself a bit of a.. Renaissance Man in the Digital Age.. *smile* Scientist, Geek, Martial Artist, Chef,... (I'll leave the rest to your imagination) *naughty twinkle*

Put this on your list of places to visit at all costs! *smile*

Cheers! (since you are in London now)

Rob
Hey Rob :) thanks for all that good stuff. Yeah Canada looks SO beautiful and um... HUGE and clean and clear and I'd love to get out to the west and Banff which is out there, yes? And maybe down to Seattle that would be superb and I got to Niagara like the big tourist I am and Toronto too but where did all the older people go in Toronto? Is it a really YOUNG city because everyone there seemed to be like twenty or maybe I just needed to move in some different circles, bingo or something, ha! Anyway thanks again and yes I am back home in blighty which is both simultaneously good and not so good, ha! You take care now :)

This song is funny. You have to hear it, and read it at the same time.
This guy sounds kinda like sebastian from the little mermaid.

Do not get mi roti, slew dem wid karate, slew dem karate, uh huh
Hey Sam :) I love it! And this line above is a real keeper!! That's so funny written phonetically, ha! Thanks for this!! Well I couldn't come back with anything like that at all but I'm thinking of alternative language and well, I love all this here good stuff below, I'm a big fan of all the Wu Tang boys - hey gangsta rap meets MA gotta be a winner anyday and this stuff is SO cool but I gotta admit it just cracks me up for taking itself so seriously. But I have to give a shout for this one because while most "gangsta rappers" yakk on about their Bentleys, this here is the only piece of music that runs the supafast AMG Mercedes SL55 and that just does it for me like you wouldn't imagine, ha! Anyway, nobody does alternative language like these guys Wu Tang / RZA and "Fast Cars" and don't ask what it means, or I'll have to pop a cap in y'***, LOL ;) ...

True mizza-Mast' on the triz-nack
Bob Digi back for a snack
Kinetic 9 in the biz-nack
Raekwon got the triz-nap

We be ridin' fast cars
w33d all in the glass jar
Chrome all on my crash bar
Glocks all in my stash box

...and I may leave it at that, it would take me WAY too long to try to redo the rest to circumvent the profanity filters, ha! :D

for anyone who thinks it is big and clever to come here on Martial Talk just to trail me and slag me off in my PM box well go listen to KT Tunstall who has a word to say in "Another Place To Fall" and that can be your mirror. I am well aware of my shortcomings already so no need to keep driving the nails in , no more please, Jenna

Doesn't sound big and clever to me, sounds dumb.
