and as much hard contact sparring against the instructors as you can handle, or can't as the case may be.
Our school starts off with a 2 mile timed run followed by jumping jacks, push-ups and sit ups. All the forms. Basics with calisthenics in between techniques. All self-defense material armed and unarmed. Sparring and sparring versus multiple opponents. Complete various breaks. My test started at 1030 and ended sometime after 6. By far the hardest thing I ever did. Hope that helps!
1st Dan Test:
1. Execution of Palgue Chil and Pal
2. Free fight three times: against a fellow red belt and then two consecutive black belts. You must be able to contact cleanly at least once each partner.
3. Breaking-your choice. 1st Dan breaking should showcase your mastery of at least one basic technique. Your Instructor should work with you on this, but it is ultimately your decision.
4. Write a three page report on your thoughts about Tae Kwon Do
2nd Dan test:
1. Koryo and Kumgang
2. Free fight: same as above, except all black belts. Sometimes, depending on skill level, 2nd and 3rd Dan testers will do 2-3 on one free fighting
3. Breaking-showcase your skill in a particular area (jumping, spinning, power etc.). Obviously, 2nd Dan and 3rd Dan breaking should be more advanced than 1st Dan.
3rd Dan test:
Same as above, except Keumgang and Taebaek
