Hi everyone

I'm looking to create a database of sites that sell quality MA gear. Hopefully, by comparing, I can get better prices. Would you all give me some recommendations on where you get good stuff? I typically buy uniforms, sparring gear (including stuff that could be used for full contact), kicking/punching shields, and weapons.

We use mostly TigerClaw & Asian World

Both do well on delivery and always have made good on any mixup's. TC (sent us a gi (pants different size than top) but sent us the right size pants without charge and without us having to return the wrong size and they ate the shipping.

Plus using the wholesale account, that sure helps price-wise.

I've purchased some uniforms from Century. The quality of the material was good. The one problem that I had was they shipped the wrong size on one of the items. When they shipped the correct item, it was the wrong color. After going around and around, I finally got the correct items.

I've had a few Century nunchakus fall apart on me, so finding well-made wood nunchakus can be a challenge. I just recently discovered a website through some very competent, long time martial artist friends with an eye for quality.

This website comes highly recommended. The website for Woodall's Custom Woodshop will custom make and sell nunchakus, escrima sticks, and bo staffs. Choices of wood and finish available. With Nunchakus, number of links and length of cords can be chosen.

I can offer a bit of a suggestion on uniforms and weapons.

If you're an instructor, or the person in charge of ordering stuff, you may want to contact the manufacturers themselves, to establish wholesale connections.

Companies such as Shureido, Kamikaze, etc., are more than happy to help establish wholesale customers.

http://www.kamikazekaiten.com/

Kamikaze (Marcus' company) has a full line of uniforms and sparring gear.

Shureido makes some nice weapons, too.

This is but an example of what's available out there.

As for specialty weapons, such as premium swords, that's where you may want to do some more research into finding out exactly what you want.

http://www.swordforum.com

has a treasure trove of knowledge, and there are actually quite a few folks from here posting on that forum as well.

I've seen a lot of these sites before. I would be interested in sites that offered QUALITY weapons and gear. I'm talking about specialists, not necessarily the secret Japanese sword maker who makes one sword every 7 years, but I'm also not talking about Mr. Wu's Super Best Quality Weapons and Green Tea Imporium. Is there a place to pay a little extra and get a weapon that will last?

I have been experimenting with customizing weaponry for a few years. I have access to hefty waxwood staffs that I finish and can be hafted with a heavy-grade spearhead for Chinese style spear. These are much better than the typical wushu stuff that is commonly available.

I have also been rebuilding and customizing Chinese straight swords and broadswords. I have some access to a variety of blade qualities, some cheaper and others much better. I carve the grip from exotic hardwoods, and use a lost-wax casting technique to make guards and pommels in solid bronze or a silver alloy. I have also been experimenting with custom scabbards that I also carve from exotic hardwoods and fit with bronze. These are also much better than the typical wushu stuff.

My volume of production is VERY limited, because I do the metal work thru my local community college, but if anyone is interested, send me a PM and I will give you my phone number and we can discuss the possibilities.

Maybe someday I will be able to open a full workshop, and I can spend more time on this, but for now I have come up with some interesting results.

What kind of weapon? Check out the links that I posted to Shureido for general martial arts weapons of excellent quality.

Looked like good Okinawan weapons. In my Isshinryu days I would love them, but I'm looking for a quality broadsword, tai-chi sword, staff (a little easier), and spear.

Any suggestions?
