Some of them look like those hand colored black and whites from the beginning of photography.

Very nice.

pretty cool.

but B&W is not uncommon, the hand colored pictures a bit more though. :)

Not sure how it translates into the digital era, but back in the day of the 35mm, I was told B&W was more crisp in image since it only had one layer of 'film', not several like the color film.

You tend to see details you normally overlook in color.

(Or it's just me)

No, not just you BW tends to draw your eye differently, and you do see different things. I like doing em, but trying to match old school toning is a new challenge of mine that's proving to be a lot of fun doing.

I like the experimental processing a lot!

I really like the shot you chose for the monochrome as well, the heavy clouds add some serious oomph to the picture.

Considering the amount of German metal in there, and the dedicated Japanese display I can imagine.

I need to process the inside shots, but they're very 'touristy'.

Just an idea, but I'm wondering how it would look to black-and-white the backgrounds while leaving the (muted) colors of the tanks themselves.

Ken I keep meaning to swing up your way. Might have to put a late spring road trip on my calendar. I just need to schedule these trips and go. Otherwise I never leave the house it seems, lol.

I did something similar a while back, don't have the shot handy. They tend to get a very 'old time' look to them. Colors fade to pastels with some 'age'. If I get a chance I'll toss a sample up later.
