who uses prices ending in 99

I'm a manager for a Papa Johns pizza, and literally all of our prices (other than extra toppings and delivery) ends in .99 cents. And I have to say, regardless of how long it's been around, people still fall for it. Someone might say, "How much our wings?" The answer is $6.99, so they'll turn around and say, "Honey, they're six dollars!" I could give countless examples.

I had never heard before about using it to keep employees from stealing, and it sounds plausible, I don't buy that it works that well. I still "magically" end up with a drawer short by $10 or $20 at the end of some nights.

I won't be one to totally knock a school for making their prices that way - after all they may be making a living from it. It's just something I've been curious about for a long time.
