How many times have we seen that OP starts a threads. After many responds, the OP just disappear from the face of the earth?

A: Let debate on which MA style is the best.
B: ...
C: ...
D: ...
B: Where is A?
C: No idea.
D: The OP throws a bone at us. We just fight for that bone.
That is wonderfully, hilariously true! A gem.

When someone responds to your thread, if you

- don't answer to it, people may think that you just ignore other's opinions.
- do respond to it, people may think you try to argue or trolling.

How to continue an online discussion and when to stop it can be a difficult choice expecially you don't even know who you are discussing with.

Any comment on this?
I find it personally difficult to walk away from an argumentative person whom I think is clearly wrong, but that's a character flaw on my part. I am trying to do better. I'm also trying to tone down the snark, which is also a character flaw of mine.

I do use ignore when it becomes clear that I'm just never going to agree with someone, or if they appear to be targeting me, or if what they say just raises my blood pressure. It works pretty well.

I take frequent breaks from MT when I feel I need to. I find my life isn't negatively impacted by just going away. I like it here, but I don't need to be here.

When you open the window, the butterfly will fly in. But the mosquito will also fly in. When you participite online discussion, you may make friends. You may also make enemies. It may hurt your feeling big time that sometime you just want to share information, but people may think you try to be a smart guy.

When I was in a Judo forum, I suggested no-gi training. Everybody were mad at me. One guy said, "You are not even a Judo guy. Nobody care about your opinion. Why are you still hanging around here for?" I left that forum right after that. No matter how much that I love the throwing art, that forum is just not for me.

If it's fun, I'll play. If it's not fun, I won't play. To raise blood pressure and get heart attack through online discussion is not worthy.

Enjoy most discussions 🙂

as long as they remain on topic and are not based on ad hominem attacks or red herring
distractions. 🤔

Prefer to share experiences on CMA / IMA or related aspects to practices or usage,
offering explanation's that are questioned based on "experience's" from that perspective...

See no point in continuing a discussion that becomes argumentative
a type of commercial, or "see above". for what ever one practices or engages in...

Find it very boring....not productive waste of time....😐

The contrast between discussions in Chinese groups on "wechat" talking about IMA
and sites based in, oriented to the US or other western countries is quite distinct

In general the Chinese wechat groups, seem more balanced with more people having exposer to what ever is being questioned able to present view points from both sides of an event...

while it can get heated,,,😂 it remains quite interesting...having more people with direct experience, or understanding theoretical concepts. While at the same time being able to point out...things that are questioned, misleading or not really representative of a practice...

Getting older I have come to the conclusion that people just talk too much and unnecessarily. The same goes for writing down opinions. Just don't respond and feed them. Not trolls but can be borderline.

Most of the arguments are caused by showing different point of views.

A: You should learn gun safety.
B: You should learn how to pull out a gun fast, and shoot well.

A: SD is to defense yourself.
B: SD should include to protect your love one.

A: You should learn anti-takedown.
B: You should learn takedown.

A: You should learn how to run away from a fight.
B: You should learn how to finish a fight ASAP.

A: You should not hurt people.
B: You should hurt your enemy enogh so he cannot cause harm to you.

Not everyone fighting you is your enemy, not everyone who helps you is your friend.

All very Western to me.
Xia (a righteous and honorable person.) - to protect weak against strong, to protect good against evil is very Chinese.

Legend of a knight

Barbarian tasseled helmet on Zhao’s knight,
whose Wu’s crescent saber shines like frost bright.
His silver saddle glows on his steed white.
When it gallops is like shooting star’s light.
In ten steps he could enemy’s throat slite.
For thousand miles he ne’er stays, runs in flight.
When the feat’s done, he brushed if off despite.
Then he hid his trace and his fame from sight.
He drank when he dropped by Lord Xinling’s site.
In front of his knees, he his sword did dight.
He offered grilled meat for Zhu Hai to bite.
To empty drinks, he Hou Ying did invite
He’s vowed after cups of drinks of delight.
Compare to his oaths, Five Mountains seem light.
Drinks blurred his eyes, warmed his ears, did incite
his bravery, which grew like rainbow’s light.
To save Zhao, Zhu Hai gold hammer did smite.
The capital, Handan was soon in fright.
After thousands of years wights of two mights
still o’er shine the ancient Daliang’s walls’ height.
Though dead, their bones hero’s fragrance relight.
They are worthy of the world’s mightiest might.
Who’d rather live a scholar’s life uptight,
studying Taixuanjing till hair turns white?
