Read a chapter awhile ago, got sidetracked, remembered I had it, finally came back to it! Thoroughly enjoying it thus far :)

This is a great book for anyone serious about understanding Asia past and present.

I always have a few books on the go at once!

Such an incredible system of vast complexity that we take for granted. I wanted to know more.

A period that came to define what we understand as Japanese culture. I wanted to know why.

Most Japanese language books are designed for ‘business people’ of which I have no interest. Then I saw this and thought it might suit my background and knowing the detailed names of body parts is always useful for one’s martial arts practise!

I don’t even like manga, but this forces me to read kana and avoids those silly ‘memory tricks‘ that make memorising kanji even more complex!

Oooooh I haven't heard of this fellow! All his books look great, adding em to the list!

Another one you might enjoy is by Kenji Ushiro, haven't read yet but it's apparently quite good

I bought it from ‘Speaking Tree’ in Glastonbury, which has a remarkable range of martial arts and esoteric books! It’s a ‘dense’ read, which I like, but for me, it’s a new perspective on Ki (of which, you can probably guess, I’m naturally skeptical).

The same author’s ‘The Inner Art of Karate: Cultivating the Budo Spirit in Your Practise’ There doesn’t seem to be previews on Amazon, so here’s a small sample.

Oh brilliant, thanks for that appreciate it! That one stuck out to me as well, and his kata one. And good on you for being open to exploring something you're skeptical on, there's alot to be said for that quality of openness :)

I ordered the kata one earlier too!

I want to believe, many things, but rationality keeps getting in the way!
