What is EDC folding knives for?

Looks like this one, but this one is a folding. IT's too big for me. It's very heavy duty, more like way over kill, but it's good.

😂 It’s a 18th Century Japanese tantō (dagger). Probably too historically precious for an EDC although it would cut open Amazon parcels very well😉

Ha ha, with all the weight, I won't be surprised it'd cut the skull open quite well.

How heavy is that? 20oz?
 
In America, an many of men carry clip folders. When we’re out at clubs or small music venues I see clips in many front pockets. Why take a knife to a music club? Handyman work? lol.

I was at a Big 5 sporting goods store looking for some camping gear. At the counter they have a knife display and a young gal was looking at knives. I asked her if it was for self defense. She said “yeah, it’s crazy out there!” I asked her if she considered training and what she thought would happen if she ever actually had to use that knife? I suggested good self defense training and she seemed to agree. I think she bought the spyderco…
 
Well, look it up, hard and brittle goes together for steel. You might find some exotic metal blades, that' beyond my knowledge.

I don't read just what you said, I went on line to research a lot. Get on line, info is out there.

I suggest you to just type "knife edge retention vs brittleness" on yahoo or chrome and read. You really need to get on with time. That's one thing, I am old, but I keep up, I actually learn C++ programming, html web developer, I am the IT of the family, never have to ask anyone to fix my computer. I determine to keep up with the young generation instead of complaining.

If you are very sure you are right and they are wrong, you might want to look into writing a paper and publish it or even apply for a US patent. It's not as hard as you think. I own 4 US patents on combine electronics and mechanical designs, I also published 2 paper in American Institute of Physics, Review of Scientific Instruments.

I thought your post was from Dirty Dog. I don't mean to be rude to you. SORRY.

To me, it's NOT about winning or losing a debate, it's about learning. I started the post thinking only about conceal carry, but then I realize there are people that OPEN carry, then I literally change my tune that I see the reason why some want to get fancy knives to open carry. I use common sense to talk, if I am wrong, I am wrong and I learn. But yes, when people attack me( beyond showing I am wrong), I will attack back. Life is fair.

So again, SORRY, this is not meant for you.

I am no expert in steel, I just read online on how to choose a blade. For me, I don't need the blade to have edge that last forever, just needs to be sharp that one time when I need it. Edge retention is not that important. Also, I think if people that are so into knives, they should learn how to do simple sharpening, that will eliminate the need of expensive blades.

I get used to searching for news and all. I am doing it everyday, I get news even before the cable news like NewsNation start covering it a lot of times. I come here to talk and learn, BUT I do go on other forums and FB to debate politics and world events. I do a lot of research and you'll be surprised how many ignorant people that don't know anything and talk big. I always pull articles from big reputable media to SHUT THEM UP.

Hell, I don't work. Other than exercise, I have a lot of free time, so I spend enough time online to read. People'd be surprised the information available on line for you to search, not just politics, science, engineering and all. I am still designing very high end hifi amps, I get information on line, reading other designs and all. Internet is the most important thing. As soon as you mention the name MagnaMax, took me 2 minutes to find the info.

Also, I think if people that are so into knives, they should learn how to do simple sharpening, that will eliminate the need of expensive blades.
Every real man should know how to sharpen a knife effectively; Whetstones, diamond stones, work sharp type contraptions etc they should all be in one’s repertoire plus how to strop effectively with diamond paste.

It's very easy. Not expensive to buy all the stones. I even have a belt sander to reform the edges. I am sure they have plenty of youtube stuffs on this.
