Walk with punching drills

I used to be a Marathon runner. I always love running. Lately, I use walking to replace running (to protect my knees). When I walk, I like to train my MA drills. I have a set of

- punching drills,
- kicking drills, and
- throwing drills.

I like to repeat each drill left and right 20 times. Here are my punching drills to share. All suggestions and comments are welcome.

  2. Right low hook, right high hook, left hook
  3. Jab, jab, cross.

The only thing I would recommend would be for a beginner. Punching when moving in any direction is good. When walking (Assuming walking is Primary purpose and punching is secondary) Every once in a while during the walk, step at a 45-degree angle to the left or the right and do it in a way that will allow you to continue to walk smoothly once you have the footwork then work in the striking.

45 degree footwork can also be used with MA drills. This can make your 4 miles walking be 5 miles walking instead.

Circular footwork can be used too. It's good for balance maintenance. One day when you are 80 and you can still walk like this, you won't have falling problem.

Do the same with my rattan stick(s), especially while walking my dog up in the foothills. I either walk or slow jog. I do all our striking patterns, Amara’s and boxing combos. Good workout.

You can isolate sequences from the kata, too. I like to use the sequence from the start of kushanku- left shuto, right shuto, left low block, straight punch middle block, straight punch middle punch. Or the sequence in the middle of naihanchi

Part of our "warmup" routine before fighting is often either walking or running slowly, while executing various techniques while in motion, basically any technique, kicking and punching. I think it teaches also balance or how to make a microbreak in motion to strike without loosing balance or stop completely.
