Secretary of State Rice just completed a tour of European capitals, meeting with the movers and shakers on that continent.

President Bush is following behind on a very short time table.

Does anyone else see these two high profile trips abroad as an attempt to step back from the rampant unilateralism of the First Bush II administration? Perhaps a vindication (long overdue) of Secretary Powell's point of view?

Could the president be there for anything other than begging for help in the middle-east mess he created?

Curiously, Mike

Maybe, or to feel out how things will be if it gets worse. I do remember thinking about August last year though that if Bush won a second round in office he would probably wish he hadn't. Still you got to give credit where it is due and he is doing his best. Maybe Kerry didn't want to inherit the situation and that is why he bailed out(not that he would have won).
There seems to be so many things in the cocktail that there probably are very few people who actually know all the reasons for anything that has been done, coupled with the fact that he is human like everyone else. Mistakes will be made.
