My son and I spent the last week in Drexel Hills, Philadelphia, PA, at a Catholic Heart Work Camp. Actually, we had about 60 teens from All Saints Youth Ministry, and a dozen or so adults -- along with another 100+ youth from as far away as California. It was hot... there was a lot of hard work, in hot weather. The boys and men weren't graced with AC in the classrooms where we slept, either.
I can't say enough how impressed and proud I am of those kids -- ours, and the ones from around the country. I heard hardly any complaining, and what I did hear was mostly good natured griping rather than real complaining, if you know the difference. The kids were open, reverent, and full of energy. They gave their all on the work sites, they gave their all in the program, praise, and worship sessions. They gave their all in play during their free time. Work Camp every year is a reminder of just how bright the future can be.
