Subbed in the first round, win on points in the second

So far, I've followed a very specific pattern in competitions. I've competed around 10 times now between blue and purple belt. Every single time, I've followed this exact pattern:
  1. Lose by submission in the first round.
  2. If it is not single-elimination, win by points in the second round.
  3. One time there was a third round, I lost by submission again.
This has happened every single tournament. Most IBJJF tournaments I've been one-and-done. The exception is a 3-man bracket that included a no-show, in which I had loss (submission), walkover (DQ due to no-show), and then won my second fight by points. JJWL tournaments guarantee at least 2 rounds, and I've won the 2nd match in every JJWL tournament I've been in (by points).

I'm competing again this week. My goal this week is to not get submitted in the first round. I don't even have to win. If I lose by points in the first round, I'll be happy.

Y'know how they used to say "the even-numbered Star Trek movies are good"? You're the Star Trek of BJJ tournaments.

Here's another funny stat. One of the guys in my bracket today, I am 1-1 against him. We have 10 seconds of total mat time together.

First match: loss by submission with 4:50 left on the timer.
Second match: walkover win due to no-show.
